InactiveQuick question–can I give two different PPIs in a day? LO is on 15 mg Prevacid solutab split into two doses each day. I would like to add an additional dose, likely OTC Zeg/Omep because it’s so much easier to dose than OTC prevacid. Is that ok to do regularly? Our pedi won’t dose over about 12.5/day (LO is 15 lbs) so it’s up to me and I think he really needs a little bit more.
thoughts? is this safe?
(edited title to be more clear)

Keymasterwell, it is safe…but aren’t you already timing giving the solutabs? if you got OTC prevacid capsules you’re already timing around meals…
what dosing schedule were you thinking? giving whole solutab first thing in a.m., on an empty stomach, followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later and then giving the zegerid/prilosec dose in the evening? or giving 3 doses a day? 2 solutab doses and one zegerid/prilosec?just wondering what you’re thinking…January 28, 2012 at 11:01 am #69779Anonymous
Inactivethanks for the info. Right now I’m thinking that I will do Prevacid first thing 30 minutes prior to a meal, another Prevacid in the mid-afternoon, 30 minutes prior to a meal. Then I would add the third PPI, preferably without timing issues, sometime in the evening around bedtime. His last feeding is unpredictable, so it would helpful not to have to worry about timing. We also have quite a lot of trouble with the middle of the night acid dump and I’m hoping this will help. We gave him the OTC Zeg/Omep last night and had the best night’s sleep we have so far. It may have been a fluke, but I’m trying it again tonight!
Does this all sound ok? Any recos? He also gets Zantac, I’m not sure if I will do 2 or 3 doses a day with the extra PPI dose. Spacing all of that our 4 hours each is definitely a challenge.

Keymastersounds fine, esp. if insurance is covering the solutabs and you’re ok w/ giving the 2 doses timed around meals!
you can try giving the zantac spaced less than 4 hrs- it’s a lot of trial & error…we were ok w/ giving it 2 hrs from the PPI (it was caracream, so perhaps 2 hrs from the zegerid/omp dose? again, it’s trial & error…)February 17, 2012 at 2:41 am #69857Anonymous
InactiveHey There,
How did this work for you? I’m thinking of adding a zegerid dose before bed for my 10 month old with severe reflux. She’s been on 30mgs on prevacid- 15mg solutabs 2xs a day. It’s worked reasonably well with a small amount of break through acid. However, her GI doc is out of the country for 3 month and the ‘replacement’ doc won’t prescribe her as high a dose, even though her usual doc is the dept head! 7.5mgs 2xs a day is not near enough, so I’m looking to add a dose. Zeg is appealing because it can be administered anytime… how’s it working? And how are you giving the zeg? Can I just give with applesauce?
