My little guy was in Cincinnati childrens after stopping breathing for 30+ second Saturday night. I truly feel that after 3 visits to the Er for cooking, gagging and refluxing constantly and screaming, theprevacid is not working. He is 2.5 months old and weighs 14 lbs. He was taking 2ml twice a day. Before we left the hospital yesterday, they switched him to 1.5 ml of protonix 2x a day. He spit up after every burp since his first dose last night. Thoughts? Isn’t it a ppi too?

I would not use compounded meds?

My dr. Will not even entertain any othe meds. I mentioned zegredid and she looked at me like I had 5 heads. If this does not work, they want to try zantac + protonix. He is mpsi so we have that working against us too… He’s on elecare.

well, ask the doctor to please humour you and to ask her/him to please write the RX exactly this way- or just ask/tell the pharmacist to please humour you:

it needs to be made with 16.8 percent sodium bicarbonate & no flavorings (flavor can be ‘on the side’ where you give w/ each dose- not mixed into the entire bottle of meds).

The concentration should be somewhere between 2-4mg/ml so that each dose has at least 3.5ml to ensure enough buffer

If they won’t do it, then go to another pharmacy. When you do get it made, ask for a printout of all the ingredients used in the compound. We did this, and found out that additional flavouring agents were being added…
