Hi! My son Glenn has been taking Zantac and Prevacid for a
couple of weeks. I think he may need his doses increased.
He’s on 3.5 mls of prevacid and .5 zantac (which I’m only giving him at
night). He now weights 13 lbs and was a little over 10 at time of
prescriptions.

Is it better to split the Prevacid into two doses or give it all at
once? It’s a suspension that I’ve been giving once a day.

Also, has anyone had experience w/allergies to the Zantac? We
have an allergic rash that seems to be linked to the Zantac use, but I
can’t be sure.

Sorry, I’m not sure about the Zantac and rash.

I never saw zantac cause a rash in my two kids. Is it listed as a possible side effect from the pharmacist? Perhaps it is that nasty peppermint flavoring they add to it. Are you giving it straight or mixed with something? Best thing to do is document when it started, where the rash is, and any changes with formula/or your diet if breastfeeding, call your ped.

I just wanted to mention that almost any med can cause an allergic reaction.

It can be a med you have taken for years or just once.

Teresa, It took us a while to finally figure out how to give the meds so they worked. I was doing it wrong for the first few months, and dd was in so much pain. Silly because I thought the docs were supposed to tell you these things.

1. prevacid and zantac must be given 2-4 hours apart form each other.

2. prevacid must be given on an emtpy stomach( unless compounded) then activated at the 30 min. mark with a fully meal 4-5 oz.

3. Got to get it compounded right or it becomes unstable. Ours was being mixed with flavoring so it just wasn’t working. The pharmacist said it was being made correctly but it wasn’t.

Joel (refluxsol) is very helpful and knowledgable about the meds.

Never heard about the zantac rash, but maybe you won’t need it anymore after the initial 14 days it takes the prevacid to kick in. Hope things get better soon!
