InactiveMy DS just turned one in January. I used to always drive my son around for his naps (because he WOULD NOT sleep), but I have finally been forcing them by making him cry himself to sleep. The problem? He only sleeps about 1/2 hour and then he’ s up again. We have a naptime routine and a bedtime routine–he’s down at 7pm. He wakes 2-3 times per night. How can I lenthen his naps? Lying down with him only stimulates him. I cannot be with him for him to fall asleep at all. He has NEVER been a sleeper and up till the past month was waking 8-10 times per night. Should I move to just one afternoon nap and keep him in his room longer if he wakes up early unti he goes to sleep again? Any ideas on how to lengthen naps? When I go in to soothe him it only makes things worse.

InactiveSorry off the subject. I noticed that Gabriel is on Cyproheptad, we just started Alexis on it recently. How long has Gabriel been on it and how is it working for you? We have Alexis on it for 1 week then off of it for 1 week etc. The first week worked very well, by the end of the week it started to wear off. The week she was off of it was bad, not bad as usually but not as good as when she was on it. We just restarted it on Weds. and it hasn’t worked as well but she is also currently battling a double ear infection and strep. I’m just curious how often you give it and what the effects you have noticed on the medication.

InactiveSue, Ashtyn is also on Cyproheptadine. Ashtyn was the same way. After awhile it didn’t work as well. I now give it to her about every third day. Some days I give it 2 days in a row. It has helped her but so has her feeding therapy.

Keymasterjonah did not nap well until 18 months…I wish I could help you…I know how aggrevating it is!!! I tried everything- med increase, slinging him to sleep, slinging & rocking him to sleep, you name it. same thing- he’d be up after half an hour, erg. sometimes (rarely) if I rushed in & got him just when he got upafter that half hour, I could get him back to sleep again for another 20 minutes or so…
however, he was good at night, so we had that going for us…
I also tried by giving up on 2 naps thinking the 1 would help…it didn’t but it did in that it made me less crazy to try and get him to sleep 2x in the day…
I wish I had an answer for you
