InactiveI guess I am just looking for a little reassurance that I am not a terrible mom for leaving Sebastian for a week to go to Mexico with my husband. We planned the trip to celebrate his graduating from med school. But when he graduated last year I was preg., we were moving across the country, and we had just bought a house that needed a lot of work. We postponed the trip until this summer.
It sounded like a good Idea before Sebastian was born. Now I can’t stand the thought of leaving him for a whole week. My parents are coming to stay with him and I am totally confidant that they will take great care of him. I just feel like it is wrong to leave, especially when he has had so many problems. My life has been totally revolving around his every need for the last five months.
This will be our first vacation in five years, and the way things are looking we probably wont have another one for a least another five. I really want to have a fun and relax, I just don’t think I can get past the guilt of leaving my baby for so long.

InactiveYou are not a bad mom. You deserve it! Just enjoy yourself!

InactiveI don’t think you should feel guilty at all! My husband and I have never left Owen for a week but we’ve left him overnight at least 20 – 25 times, and went for a 3 day vacation in April. I think that it is so important to get some time away from these little guys – you do everything that you can for them when you’re with them, but sometimes a more happy mommy is a much better mommy. I think you guys should go and don’t be worried. I’m sure that you’ll call and hear that everything is fine. So go, enjoy yourself, and then you’ll come back refreshed and ready to be a good mommy again!

InactiveBeing a mom can be so demanding, let alone dealing with a refluxer with many needs. It’s a great time to go while he is young and won’t cry for you at night, things like that. Have a blast and drink a couple of margaritas for me!

InactiveHave fun! You deserve a break.

InactiveYou don’t know how much I wish I could get away, even for one night. I have nobody who is willing to stay with my children. My family lives out of state and my in-laws, who are five hours away by car, come to visit frequently but will not babysit!!
I’d probably feel a little guilty, too. Most moms would, but taking care of yourself truly is taking care of your child. And the fact that you have full confidence that he will be getting the best care from his grandparents should ease your guilt and allow you to enjoy yourself.
Have fun and enjoy some rest and relaxation.

InactiveDh and I have each had to travel for work, so we’ve both been away from Kaelyn, but we’ve never taken a trip together. I really wish that we had done it before now. You’ve taken steps to be sure that he’ll be well taken care of, so you aren’t a bad mother for planning some alone time with dh. Enjoy your trip — like you said, it may be quite a while before you get a chance to do it again!

InactiveThanks for all the responses. It makes me feel better. I am still going to miss him like crazy, but I am feeling less guilty for taking time for myself. I am sure it will get easier when I am on the beach with a margarita in hand.

I really never thought I would be such a neurotic parent. I all ready have 6 pages of instructions for my mom. I am sure after 4 kids, 5 grandkids and running a home daycare for 30 years, she really needs to be reminded to burp him after he eats.
I am just grateful that I have a family that is so willing to help out. That must be so hard Christine not having anyone you can leave you kids with. May 17, 2006 at 8:52 am #8195Anonymous
InactiveHave a great vacation Katey!

In addition to the six pages of instructions, you’ll probably want to call home and check on him a couple of times a day! I hope you can relax and enjoy yourself. Have a margarita for me, too!
Yeah, it really is hard to never get a break. Thanks for the acknowledgement. I sure don’t get any around here. DH thinks I’m a chronic complainer and he “works all day, too” so what do I have to complain about?

Have a great time and relax as much as you possibly can!!!

Keymasterenjoy!
I’ve been begging for just one night away before this new baby arrives! my MIL lives nearby but never has offered to babysit (well, in all fairness, she did babysit once when jonah was a shrieking newborn and after 2hrs she practically threw him at us as we walked in the door and she ran, never to offer again

)…so now that he’s older I’m begging dh to get me to a hotel just for one night- not that I can sleep & enjoy it, LOL, but I won’t have to get up in the morning & ‘deal’ w/ jonah- I can go pee (for the millionth time
) and get back in bed- maybe even order room service…ahhhh
!~~have that margarita for me, too! Frozen or on the rocks, doesn’t matter to me!
