InactiveSaw our Ped (the new one) yesterday for Marisa’s well visit, hepatitis
booster and tuberculosis test (she did suprisingly well and no reaction
so far, knock wood). He’s very happy with her progress with solids and
that the increased fruits/veggies and fiber juice has helped her
constipation so much (she now goes at least every other day and they
are big mushy BMs).If this continues he wants us to try regular formula around 10 months
(which is less than 2 weeks away) by mixing regular Enfamil into her
Alimentum – the first day at ratio of 7 to 1, then 6 to 2, 5 to 3, etc.
We are nervous and scared but also excited – she’s been doing so well
with her foods and we’d love if she could tolerate dairy so we could
then try snacks like cheese and yogurt. He said to mainly look for
constipation/diarrhea and increased/severe nasal congestion. Of course
in her case we’ll be on the lookout for rashes too. He recommended
regular Enfamil in particular because it is whey proteins (as opposed
to Similac which is casein) which should be less constipating. He’d
rather try the full Enfamil as opposed to the Gentleease or the Good
Start to see if she can handle the full proteins. We start our beef trial on Friday. If by the end of next week that’s
gone well and the BMs are still good we may try the formula that
weekend. Ack!knb18 2006-6-6 10:3:54 May 31, 2006 at 2:24 pm #8862Anonymous
InactiveVery excited for you Karen! I’ll cross my fingers that it goes well.
I know everyone says Alimentum(Similac brand) is better than Nutramagin(enfamil) but we always had better luck with enfamil brand and we know how sensitive Ian’s tummy was/is. Has Marisa ever been on a “regular” formula? If yes, how did she react then-mainly constipation? Ian was reflux and IRRITABILITY..oooh baby was he unhappy. More recently it was blood and congestion.

InactiveMarisa came home from the hospital on regular Similac – after a few
days tummy cramps and irritability and then red ring around anus. We
switched to Good Start and that was better for a bit and then reflux
and irritability and red ring returned. Then Alimentum, then Neocate
then back to Alimentum. She had mainly congestion and watery explosive
poops, as well as reflux and irritablity – but it’s been a LONG time.
She actually didn’t become constipated until the Neocate and rice
ordeal…May 31, 2006 at 3:38 pm #8873Anonymous
InactiveThat is great! I hope the trial goes well b/c there are so many yummy foods out there that have milk in them. I cannot believe how old Marisa is-it seems like just yesterday that we joined this board with newborn babies!

InactiveGood luck Karen. I hope it goes well!! BTW, I’ve never heard of kids getting TB tests? Sarah has never had one.

InactiveI don’t know – her new Ped told us yesterday he was going to do it and
went ahead after her shot and did that prick thing on the arm and drew
a little bunny head around it and told us to check it Thursday. I
remember getting them myself as a kid – but not sure if it’s still
commonly done?May 31, 2006 at 7:51 pm #8902Anonymous
InactiveGood luck with the change, I hope it goes well. We are not allowed to try until 18 months
, but at least we are able to try wheat and soy in a weeks time. Let us know how it goes, we will have our fingers crossed.May 31, 2006 at 9:18 pm #8915Anonymous
InactiveThanks Amber. I’m nervous as heck and hope we don’t cause a backslide
but also excited because if she can tolerate it we can do cheese,
yogurt, etc!Good luck with soy and wheat!

InactiveGood luck… you know, some babies are able to tolerate cheese and yogurt but not milk…so there is still some hope even if it does not go too well!

InactiveStarting today… we are mixing at a ratio of 7:1 Alimentum today – so
just made her morning bottle (usually only 6 ounces if lucky so 5.25
Alimentum, .75 Enfamil). Nervous… Keep your fingers crossed!June 6, 2006 at 10:03 am #9200Anonymous
InactiveQuestion… When I try to mix these, they come out quite foamy and seem
a bit separated still. I can only use the RTF Alimentum, Marisa never
did well with the powder version and the ingredients are different in
the powder. So I have to shake each RTF jug and then pour the right
amounts into the bottle (I use Dr. Brown’s). I also tried pouring them
into a shaker first to shake well together and then settle and pour
into the bottles but am still getting this problem. Any ideas? Maybe
stir them together instead of shake? But the cans/jugs need to be shook
before pouring in the first place…June 12, 2006 at 11:44 am #9608Anonymous
InactiveHi Karen-
How’s everything going?? I’m guessing well since I haven’t seen anything otherwise? Is she eating a little more (wondering if taste does make a difference after all)…?
Thinking about you!

InactiveHi Tracy! I’ve been terrified to post anything about it for fear of the
ever lingering curse, but so far so good! We’re up to 2/3
Enfamil/Alimentum in today’s bottles and no discernable reactions so
far – sleeping same as usual (good but waking early), very happy,
active, no rashes, no constipation or diarrhea, etc. A bit more wet
burps but she tends to do that with any new foods and they aren’t
bothering her. We actually limit her to 18 ounces/day and up her solids
if she’s still hungry (what her doctor wants) plus she gets fiber juice
and water. We still have to do bottles in front of TV but I think
that’s more a matter of her just not loving the bottle thing overall
and being too active to sit and drink. She doesn’t seem to notice the
taste all that much actually. Yesterday she only had about 16 ounces
but had a lot of solids and a ton of bread.I’m hoping it continues to go ok becuase if so maybe in another week or two we’ll try cheese!

InactiveWOW ! Yippee! Sounds really great. Bread? Bet she loves that! We have still yet to find a grain but allergist said wait until 10months to try again. How much as far as solids is she eating? Glad to hear the little one is so happy.
We’re doing pretty good too-Ian’s tolerating a few foods with ease-apples, pears, green beans, squash, sweet potato, banana, and this week…pumpkin. I think he still doesn’t know what to do with his tongue while eating-keeps pushing it back when food comes which in turn pushes it out his mouth but he happily opens back up for me when I scoop back in. Formula stinks! TV and MANY breaks-1 oz here, 1oz there over an hour. But haven’t tried juice since fiber juice mishap.
So fantastic to hear this!
Tracy
