InactiveHi there…
I’ve searched through past threads and couldn’t find this; just started
giving dd prevacid packets a few days ago. I read on some threads that
its flavoring can cause an adverse reaction in little ones. I’m just
wondering (and this is what I didn’t see) what that reaction could present
as. DD has some acne-like bumps that just popped up on her face and
sometimes she looks a bit flushed. I’m trying to determine it’s origin. I
thought about the flavoring right away, but the bumps are really only on
one side of her face,so I wasn’t sure if the sheets she’s sleeping on
weren’t rinsed well enough or something like that. So, if anyone knows
how a reaction to prevacid packets looks, I’d be very appreciative if you
could tell me.
Thanks!
Oh! And administering these things is absolutely horrid!

Keymasterthe reactions I think range from behavioral reactions to stool/diaper area reactions to maybe what you’re describing…
try to get caracream

find a local pharmacy (most walgreens) that uses the company FLAVORX for flavorings & then once you’ve found them, contact joel (or anyone from http://www.marci-kids.com) to get in touch with the pharmacist to TELL HIM/HER HOW TO USE CARACREAM
good luck!
to know what I’m talking about, if you don’t knowvwhat caracream is, go to my welcome/intro & click on ‘prevacid 101’

Inactivedoes she drool a lot? the reason I ask is Aidan gets the same kind of rashiness/flushing on his face..I thought it was from food/meds..but turns out it’s just that he’s a little faucet!! He gets the acne bumps under his neck and a bit on his upper chest (the drool kind of “pools” under his neck, poor kid)..I found that putting a&d ointment on the rash makes it go away, but I wouldn’t try it if it’s on her face…they do have a little stick..I think gerber makes it? called little faces, it’s a moisturizing stick (sort of like chap stick for your face) don’t know if this helped at all. Aidan was on the packets for a while but we switched back to the soltabs…his reflux came back terribly on the packets..can’t figure out why, he just had a bad reaction to them.

InactiveJill- thanks for answering. I’m sure it’s not drool rash because she’s
definately had that before (on chin, neck and chest, as you said), and this
rash is located more on her upper cheek.
Laura- I’d love to try caracream, but must admit to being confused. My
father is a pharmacist at the major hospital here and just called me and
said he couldn’t get it; that it was no longer available. It would have been
wonderful…
He checked out marci-kids and said I should try to get the ped to switch
to Zegrid. Any advice on how to breach that subject with a doc? I guess
I’m asking what to expect, and what others experience has been, as this
whole thing with meds (since day one) has felt like me vs them with
perscribing, then proper dosing, then begging for a ppi and having both
the doc and local pharmacist look at me like they were doing this all
against their better judgement. I’m always fighting; so I’m looking to
prepare myself for yet another confrontation. Do I tell him to contact
someone at marci-kids?
Any thoughts about the ease of giving Zegrid vs Prevacid solutabs?
Ok, sorry for the long post.
Thanks to you all…HannahLove2006-6-6 10:29:44

InactiveI like Zegerid much better than prevacid. I just printed stuff out from the marci-kids website and brought it to my ped. Hehad never heard of it and asked if I wanted a script for it, I was like oh yeah! But my ped is good like that, he’s young, I think my age (29) and is open to new info. I think many “older” peds are not as open….so sometimes you may just have to be, exuse my language, a royal bitch to get what you want if going the nice route doesn’t work.

InactiveI’ve called my ped and am waiting for a return call. I’m just going to tell him
if he has reservations to go to marci-kids.com, and I’ll just try to do my best
to be forceful. I’m sooooo not that way by nature, but this whole experience
has really taught me how to be an advocate!
I’m still curious about caracream though. I see that there is at least one
other person on this board who just started it a couple of weeks ago. I’m
even more confused now. If anyone knows difinatively, what the scoop is on
caracream, could you post it? Or pm me or anything? I’m really starting to
feel desperate.

InactiveLaura,
Thank you so much for the info. You are always so speedy with the replies,
and I truly appreciate that.
So at this point, I have to get a script from my doc for prevacid
compounded, then ask the pharmacist to fill out a form stating why we need
caracream and not zegrid? right? Where do I get the form?
Thanks!!!!!

Keymasterok:
1) find pharmacy that uses FLAVORX company for flavorings- most likely a Walgreens
2) Contact MARCI-KIDS and ask them what to do next
3) You can try to find Joel by going to the top right hand corner of this page- he is REFLUXSOL

I’ll look into prevacid w/ caracream, solutabs and Zegrid.
