InactiveI am starting to dought myself and just needed someone elses opinion. I give my son Justice pepcid at 8 Am. He does great from 10 Pm to about 6 Am and then it seems as though he is having reflux again. My first son was upset all the time and when we tryed Zantac with him he was good for a week and then we had to put him on prevacid. Justice’s ped. is wanting to put him on prevacid and I am all for it. What do you think? Does it still sound like reflux and the pepcid is helping a little?

Keymastershelby,
it can take up to 2wks, 14 days, for the prevacid to work. And that’s IF it’s the ‘proper’ dose…
so, I would have your son stay on the pepsid no matter what…even if you get the prevacid, bcse if you stop the pepsid it’s as if your baby isn’t on any meds at all…just make sure you give the pepsid and the prevacid at least 2hrs (or more) seperate from one another…
if your baby is uncomfortable at any time, day or night, and is clearly bothered/in pain from the reflux, then yes, I’d say to try a PPI…
some babies are worse w/ their acid reflux at night, some during the day, and some (like mine until we got the meds ‘right’) are in pain 24hrs a day…
are you breastfeeding? formula? is mspi (milk soy protein intolerance) a factor as well?
here’s all about mspi: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2697&a mp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;a mp;PN=1&TPN=1
HTH (hope this helps)

ps: if you go to the upper right hand corner of the page and click on ‘Settings’ and from there, ‘Update your Profile’ and from there, scroll down to ‘Signature’ – then you can put your baby’s age, meds, flrmula, etc
– it’s so hard to keep track of all these little gerdlings

InactiveThank you. I remember doughting myself all the time with my first son. It’s always nice to have a second opinion. Thank you for telling me about the signature thing too. I was trying to figure that out.
I am breastfeeding this time. I tryed with my first son. His ped at the time said that the reason he was pullling off is that he wasn’t getting enough to eat and I needed to supplement. I took her advice and he stopped nursing. He associated it with pain and would not go back to it. I do not want to give up this time. I now know what is going on and I also know how to tell if this one is getting enough. I’m not sure if he has milk or soy intolerance. I tryed staying away from dairy for a few days and it didn’t seem to make any difference. I am still not really doing dairy. I know my oldest had to stay away from dairy.
Thank you again,
Shelby

Keymasterto know for sure if it’s milk or soy proteins, you have to avoid all dairy and soy, including ‘hidden’ dairy (whey, casin, to name a few) for at least 2 weeks…
there’s info from my welcome/intro
…some signs would be his stools- if they’re green & watery, green and like shaving cream, stringy/mucousy…that would be a sign of mspi..again, more from my welcome/intro

InactiveDefinitely sounds like his reflux is bothering him. I would start
with the prevacid but like Laura said, continue to give the pepcid
until the PPI “kicks in”. We used Zantac with the PPI with Zach
and it worked wonders. Hope things improve soon.June 8, 2006 at 11:38 pm #9403Anonymous
InactiveDon’t ever doubt yourself! Moms know best! That is the one thing I have
learned through all of this!
