InactiveI am looking for tips on feeding blueberries to a six month old. I am following the guide for introducing food to the allergic infant (thanks Laura
). Blueberries are on the list for six months, but the baby food ones are mixed with other fruits. I only want to feed him organic foods at this stage so it is hard to find a wide variety. June 9, 2006 at 1:56 pm #9438Anonymous
InactiveGerber Tender Harvest makes an organic blend of Pears and Wild Blueberries. I know that’s a blend. Can he have pears?
The only other way I can think of is to puree them into some other food he already eats because he can’t chew them yet, and since they are round they are a choking hazard.

InactiveHe has been eating pears for a while so that would work. I was thinking if I tried to cook them and smoosh them up there would not be much left. Probably why the baby food ones are mixed. thanks for the tip. I will check out the tender harvest. I have been using earths best and they do not have a very wide selection

InactiveEarth’s Best has apple/blueberry. My DD likes both that and the Tender Harvest pear/blueberry.

Inactivethe list says no apple until they are one. I was going to try it anyway but I tried peas and he got really fussy, stuffy, mucusy poop, so now I am being more careful.

InactiveThat’s odd because according to everything else I’ve read and heard
apples are one of the least allergenic foods… Peas are related to soy
so that might have been the problem there.June 9, 2006 at 6:02 pm #9468hellbennt
Keymasterthere was a mama on here who’s baby is allergic to apples…it’s so hard to know what’s what…erg…
for blueberries: I buy organic frozen blueberries & jonah & I eat them everymorning in our oatmeal

you could buy frozen organic, steam them & mash them and put in cereal, if you’re giving cereal…

InactiveThanks Jill, I microwaved them for about five minutes and then ground them up and it worked really well. Did need a little oatmeal to thicken. He gagged and tried to throw up the first bite, but he does that with all new food. He ate a few bites and we will try some more tomorrow. Thanks for the help!
