InactiveDo you give three doses or two one in the am and one in the pm. If you do give three 10mg each dose, what type of Prevacid do you use…solutabs, capsules, or compounded? Have you seen that three doses are better than two? Any info. would be great!

InactiveWe use 30mg in two doses. I’m thinking of trying to split it and add a morning dose. She’s never been interested in eating breakfast, and I’ve always assumed it was lack of appetite. It seems that many refluxers don’t want to eat breakfast which has made me wonder if it’s actually breakthrough acid. Her last dose is at 8 pm, and her other dose is at 1. She takes it in CaraCream.
Are you using the solutabs? Do you manage to wait the 30 minutes?

InactiveI use the solutabs and give it to him at 9:30 a.m. before his 10:00 bottle and then at 5:00 p.m. before his 5:30 feeding of solids. He then gets his bottle at 6:00 and is off to bed by 6:30. I can not wait the 30 min. in the morning because he really wants his bottle even if he ate in the middle of the night. So if you use caracream you can give it to them at anytime? I do not know if we can get that here in the US. I thought about getting the compounded Prevacid, but Marci kids website says that they only like the release prevacid and not the compounded?

InactiveI give Myles 10 mg three times daily. 7am, 2:30 or 3pm, and 7:pm. For the morning dose I sneak into his room before he’s fully awake and give it to him then give him his nuk and pat him a little and he almost always goes back to sleep. If not, I pick him up and just slowly dress him, play with him a little and the 30 minutes goes by quickly enough. He is very hungry in the morning, but so far I haven’t had any problems getting him to wait the 30 minutes.
I’ve always done three doses, so I can’t really say for sure if it’s better than two, except that three doses is what marci-kids recommends, so it must be better.
Caracream cannot be used with solutabs, and I wouldn’t trust the compounded prevacid. The empty stomach/30 minute thing is very frustrating, but there’s no way around it that I know of except to switch to Zegerid, which I have seriously considered doing many times. Now that Myles is getting older and is on a pretty regular schedule it’s not as difficult to time his meds, so I will just stay with what’s working.

KeymasterYou MIGHT be able to get caracream, mixed/compounded at a pharmacy (so you’re not doing it yourself, like some out of the country are, & like we did when it was available here
)…This is what you need to do:
1) call a local (preferably a small pharmacy not a big chain- or try a university or children’s hospital pharmacy)
2) see if they use the brand FLAVORX to flavor their compounds
3) if the answer is YES, then:
a) find out the name of the pharmacist
b) contact http://www.marci-kids.com or email joel (RefluxSol) andrewsjj@health.missouri.edu and ask that the pharmacist be contacted (provide the contact info) so that the pharmacist can know how EXACTLY to:
i) get caracream
ii) USE it properly

ps: this is all in ‘prevacid 101’ from my welcome/intro

InactiveI give one dose mid morning at around 11ish….(um or when I remember
, Aidan is usually pretty good in the morning and it’s crazy around here schedule wise in the summer) and I TRY to give the second around 5 before dinner…His med schedule isn’t set in stone, as long as he gets all 30 mg in him a day, and is acting happy I don’t really worry about when/how the doses are given/divided up. I will say I tried splitting it into 3, and for some reason it works beter for him in 2 doses. (solutabs)Aidansmom79 2006-6-19 15:42:0 -
