Hi Mary,
I agree with Laura about the solids and not necessarily starting with grains. I tried rice cereal and then oatmeal with Caden at about 5 1/2 months, and he did NOT react well to either one. He also got a rash on his little mouth and chin, and he had mucousy stools (which he has had before). So, I decided to instead hold off until 6 months and then start with pears or avocado since they are both mild. He didn’t have a reaction to either. Then, I introduced carrots, sweet potatoes, and some of the other common veggies and fruits. He did NOT do well with applesauce or bananas, so those are out for now.
It’s just trial and error at first, I know. At this point, Caden is able to tolerate oatmeal, pears, carrots, sweet potatoes, avocado, and that’s about it. That’s fine though, as he is only 7 months old. Breastmilk is still his main diet.
Good luck with TED (elimination diet). I think you’re right to read, read, and read some more about anything and everything regarding reflux and milk/soy protein intolerance. I am still reading and still thinking about what may be effecting Caden, because we still have days where I wonder what in the world was different that day to make him so cranky.
You’ll find lots of great info here on this site from these ladies.
Have a great day!
