Ali is currently 5.5 months old and has been breastfed since birth. For the past month (at least), she has been horribly constipated. I’m having a hard time finding information on this considering constipation in a bf infant seems to be so rare. We made a couple of changes around the time that she first began with the constipation.
1.) I began adding dairy back into my diet. Not a lot. I know mspi can show up as constipation, but is this true even when breastfeeding? I thought bf babies with mspi usually had diahrrea. She doesn’t have any other symptoms.
2.) We increased her omeprazole and Pepcid. I know constipation can be a s/e of the omeprazole, though rare. We took her off it for two days to see, and it was a nightmare. Not going there again.
3.) We began solids. She only gets pears, prunes, and sometimes peaches. I dilute them to a very thin consistency with pumped breastmilk. I’m reluctant to stop the solids because they have helped with her reflux.
Any thoughts/experience on what might be causing it, and what might help? She is so uncomfortable, and her reflux is definitely worse on days that she is really backed up. I’m thinking I need to call her doc.
