We went through the same thing with Owen. I breastfed, when he didn’t tolerate that went straight to Alimentum and I thought I had a new kid. After 5 weeks though, slowly things started to show up again. Fussy, constant diarrhea, poor sleep, etc.
I would definately keep a little diary of how things are going and don’t let it go on for long if you really suspect he is not tolerating. I let it go on for probably 3 weeks longer than I should have and the doc really didn’t guide me either. We ended up in Children’s Hosp, had a feeding tube and a rather long few months of getting back to “normal”.
Neocate I think tastes worse than Alimentum and I would not go cold turkey if you decide with doc to change. The docs I worked with told me to just change him over and I have struggled and struggled to get him to take it and I finally figured out it was the taste. I mix with goat’s milk and he takes it well. Most MSPI babies don’t tolerate even goats milk, but he did.
Good Luck!
