We’re really strugging with naps! My little guy is 2.5 months and has been on zantac for a few weeks. There’s no change so he got prescribed prilosec today and I’m hoping for a miracle! He is so miserable all day. He’s exhausted and it takes forever for me to get to sleep and I have to hold him and bounce him until he’s out. Then, 30 minutes on the dot he’s up crying and I can never get him back to sleep no matter how much I try! I’d be ok with it if he was happy but he’s still so tired. I feel so bad for my 2 year old who has to entertain himself most of the day because I’m trying to get the baby to sleep or to stop crying!
Has anyone had nap issues like this that got better with the right meds? I really pray he gets some relief soon…and my back is killing me!The weird thing is, he sleeps really well at night. Maybe because he’s just so exhausted?? You would think the reflux would bother him at night as well.October 27, 2009 at 12:22 pm #64367AnonymousInactiveSome babies just don’t nap well, especially at that age. It’s really hard to say that it’s reflux related. My refluxer didn’t nap unless held, but also didn’t sleep at night either. I’d suggest getting a good sling- that way he’ll sleep on you, but you’ll still be able to play with your 2 year old. Unfortunately, our sleep issues didn’t get better with the meds- day or night. But maybe you’ll be lucky… just make sure that your prilosec is made correctly, typically it’s not- if it’s a compound and it has flavouring, then chances are it’s not made correctly already. There’s a link stickied in the meds section that gives more information (the compound is called the immediate release PPI). Good luck.

It took FOREVER to put her to sleep and then she’d wake up 30 minutes later and scream and cry until it was time to do it all over again. AND, surprisingy, her nights were the best too!!! I never understood that either…although I was grateful for it!
Once we were on a good dose of a PPI medication (zegerid, in our case) we had a brand new child who loved to sleep, smile, and be HAPPY!!! I saw that you are on a compounded medicine right now. You are right that it probably will not be effective but it sounds like you have to “humor” your doctor and give it a try. In the meantime I’d print off all of the information from http://www.marci-kids.com and have it prepared to fax (or bring) to your doctor and push for prevacid solutabs (given on an empty stomach followed by a meal 30 minutes later) or something like zegerid.Good luck and hang in there! I remember exactly how you feel! (I’m expecting #2 in a few weeks and I’m sure I’ll be back on here dealing with these same issues again!) -
