InactiveI am starting to see a new trend on this board. When I first came here I noticed that doctors were really pushing Reglan, and then I noticed doctors telling mothers not to breastfeed. Now I notice that they are pushing Neocate. Is it me or are others noticing this too?

Inactivei think the neocate thing goes like this: they want to avoid putting the baby on meds or PPI’s, maybe because they are hesitant about having a baby on a PPI. many also dont take reflux in babies seriously. they dont realize its as painful as it is and dont understand how many of these babies truly need PPI’s.
i guess they want to see if formula switch would solve the problem before meds do. for most of our babies though, they do require PPI’s in conjuction.October 21, 2006 at 1:46 pm #16292Anonymous
InactiveI’m not sure if it’s that doctors are pushing Neocate more, or if we just happen to have more people on now that have babies on Neocate. Hopefully, more doctors are starting to realize that reglan isn’t always the solution. Of course, that being said, it really does seem to be helping Alexandra, so it does have its uses.

InactiveOur GI started with Neocate for Taylor as well since he said a large amount of babies have reflux due to allergies and intolerances. He said if we can solve the problem and see if it is food problems we can avoid medications. In Taylor’s case unfortunately the neocate did not help, her reflux is due to allergies but she is allergic to corn syrup which is in neocate. She also has DGE so she is also on Reglan as well.

InactiveI think what Kim said is true, there seems to be a few more babies on this board on Neocate now than there have been in previous months.

InactiveIs it the doctors suggesting the neocate, or the mothers wanting to try it because it has worked for others? Kind of a chicken or egg thing..

Inactiveyes i went on the neocate just because it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. if they werent going to test dd for allergies then there was no way i was going to question what formulas were going to work for her. so needless to say on to the stuff that is virtually impossible to be allergic to.
