InactiveI can’t believe we are still dealing with this! It feels like it has been forever. The last two nights have been a nightmare AGAIN….he is squirming and gassy and uncomfy all night long….just like it was before he started sleeping the stretch from 10 to 2 in the last three weeks (gosh – even that is pathetic, but it seemed heavenly at the time). We switched from Prevacid to the Zegerid 3 days ago…could that be it? Is his dose too low? He is almost 7 months and he is on a 20mg packet each day – half in the am and half in the pm. Doc said we could increase it, if i thought we should. Or do we have to wait awhile to see if this dose works?
The only other thing that has changed is that I have added carrots to his cereal during the day – he is finally accepting veggies. Could that be it?
In the meantime, this Reglan is sitting on my kitchen counter beckoning me, but I am so scared of it! I just don’t know what to do?
HELP!

InactiveSo does Jacob get 5ml in the am and 5ml in the pm or how does it work? At that age, Abby was getting 5.5ml 3 times per day which controlled things very well. Just wondering so maybe I could offer more advice

InactiveI never used Zegerid but Myles really never improved until he was on Prevacid 3 times per day. Maybe a third dose would help.

InactiveI agree 100% with the three doses. I take a 20mg packet, mix with 6.5 mls of water. That makes 10ml’s total! I give 5ml’s at 8am, another 5 mls’s at 2pm, and make another packet at this time, and give another 5mls at 8pm. There is then a dose leftover for the AM. I keep in fridge each time.
This is 30mg a day, and it has helped Sophie!

InactiveCarrots were a nightmare for Dylan. Peas were as well, but I would cut out the carrots so you have one less thing to try to figure out if it is or isn’t…..

InactiveBryce does much better with three doses too – the last one right before bedtime.

InactiveJOhanna,
We had problems with Zegerid with Brianna…not quite the same, but we ended up putting her back on Prevacid. Have you thought about combining an H2 blocker (Zantac or Pepcid) with the zegerid…I know there are mixed reviews about H2 blockers on this board…but adding Zantac to Brianna’s meds at night, that is when we really saw her start to sleep better. Now she may wake once or twice a night, but she finds her passy, settles back in and goes right back to sleep. Maybe the combo is worth a try??? Also, have to checked http://www.marci-kids.com to see what his dose should be?

Inactivei have to say that 20 mg of zegerid a day sounds almost useless. i imagine that would not do much for his reflux. have you seen the dosing calulator on marci-kids.com?

InactiveHmmm – okay. It seems to be the general consensus that I should up the dose, so I started that today. I gave him approx. 5ml THREE times today…I assume it will take awhile to kick in.
Also, I have stopped the carrots (just in case).
So, the only issue I am having now is that he is fighting me tooth and nail when it comes to taking the medication….he must not like the flavor of it, since he never had a problem with the prevacid soultabs. What can I do about that? Can I mix the meds in a bottle, or no?

InactiveYes, you can. But probably just mix it in an ounce of forumla so he’s more likely to drink it all. Then you can feed him another bottle.
Also, be sure to add the medication right before you feed him because it will degrade if added too soon.
Good luck. I hope the higher dose does the trick.
