Yes – both of those formulas stink going in and coming out. Alimentum and Nutragimen are the same in the way the milk protein is broken down. They must have slightly different ingredients though because I have read a lot about kids doing well on one but not the other. And some babies do well on only the ready-to-feed versions of these products. Good luck with your formula trial.
Yes, I agree, they smell and taste horrible. My son refused most of them b/c we went cold turkey b/c I had no info on the best way to switch to a new formula. If there is a protein intolerance also, you may have to go one step further to Neocate or Ellacare. We had Reflux and MSPI and I started with Allimentum, but my ds couldn’t tolerate and we had to go to neocate.
We use Nutramigen concentrate. To me it smells like Corn, much better than the way the soy he was on for a while smelled. They will smell differently than milk based formulas b/c they aren’t milk based. I don’t know what the main ingreident in Alimentum is, but nutramigen is corn… The concentrate doesn’t smell as bad as the powder. May want to try the rtf or concentrate and see if it smells better.
All versions smell bad! If it’s any consolation, you get used to it. Of course, then you get together with family, she spits up and everyone comments on how bad it smells and you realize that you’ve lost your sense of normal.
