Inactivethanks guys. yes, i do believe shane spit up worse on the goats.. i think for a while i need to stay away from all forms of dairy.
i am actually going to mix the rice milk with SOY for a little while…i know i know, i do not like soy for children!! this has been a tough decision!! but today was a nightmare when i gave him the alimentum.. i dont know if it was from that..but he took the tiniest nap and woke up crying.. and was very cranky today and burping! i do remember when he was on alimentum he took short naps & had bad reflux.. but i thought it was just because he was young..and his system has matured. plus i wouldnt be giving him enough alimentum to add the amount i want to add to his diet. i decided that this is what is best for him to make sure he gets enough nutrients for a little while..and i am only going to do half of it.. so i am making sure he doesnt get too much of it.. and hopefully only for several months. i know many babies are on it for a short period and are perfectly fine.. that is what i keep telling myself
.i hope this works and that he is not soy intolerant as well!

Inactiveoh yea and to add more “confusingness”.. half of my decision came from my mom. she goes to a nutrition school in NY..and a professor came in today and talked about soy. she than asked him after class about Shane. he said that he DEFINATELY cannot be on rice milk alone.. and he needs much more fat/protien from his milk in his diet…that the other foods and the oils wornt enough! he said that soy is perfectly fine when not over induldged and that the stuff we hear isnt really true..
.i guess i have to choose to believe that small amounts for a short period of time is o.k.. and my baby will be fine..
just thought i’d share this with info with ya’ll.

InactiveLauren, I just wanted to let you know that Alana can’t tolerate dairy yet either, but she can tolerate hidden soy and soy milk (I only give it occasionally though). WE are lucky that I can still get about 450mls of pepti junior in daily. Hopefully we can keep going with this. I hope your new pead sends you to a great nutristionist. I think you are doing flax seed oil or somthing though, from memory? Don’t stress to much until you have seen someone, He is growing and developing fine so I’m sure he is OK. BTW, is a nutrisionist the same as a dietician?

Inactiveas for the stuff “not being true” that is not accurate at all…there is a lot of info that talks about the dangers of GMO’s in soy….
i dont like when doctors/phds dismiss things as not being true without looking at both sides. i mean, i had actual doctors telling me that 1) babies couldnt have reflux/gerd and the stuff i read on the internet “wasnt really true” 🙄 2) in no way were PPI’s safe for babies….etc. its really annoying.
soy has its benefits and its downfalls, as do most things.
but, there is soy available with no GMO’s…and i would feel ok about giving that to Trace in small amounts too.
you gotta do what you gotta do.

InactiveI think that Organic brand (was it Baby’s One?) has no GMO’s.

Inactiveyep..thats the one we just picked up. thanks for recommended it before.. it actually made me feel better. i wish we could do silk soy milk because its organic too..but its fat contant is 4g in 8 ounces..and milk is 8g’s
. so thanks for that formula brand.. it made me feel better. and the brand has 5g’s in only 4 ounces!! so i can do only 4 ounces and the other 3 rice milk..and feel better. i give hime 3 bottles a day..so i would think that would be enough..June 17, 2007 at 1:50 pm #37070Anonymous
InactiveYou’re welcome.
I’m glad it makes you feel at least a little better about it. I used to compromise too and give my babies 1/2 soy and 1/2 something else after the breast milk was gone and before they outgrew their dairy sensitivity. I didn’t know about the organic stuff then, though. It would have made me feel better too.
Also, try to keep in mind that a lot of the reasearch into soy is contradictory. Some studies say it’s great, some say it’s not. I think moderation is key in most things anyway. Hopefully it will only be for a short time period of his life that he’s drinking the soy and it’s not his whole diet. This would probably be a good time to try to introduce alternative protein and fat sources so that eventually he’s eating a wide enough variety that you won’t have to rely on the soy so much. I know, easier said than done. Myles is such a picky eater, so I try not to give too much advice on what and how to feed babies.
