InactiveOur allergist said that the testing he did was highly reliable. We were tested for peanuts and it came back negative. I decided to do some peanut *butter* non dairy and it wasn’t good. He said that we had not been exposed before….. But, I agree that this testing was so very beneficial for us and the test itself was painfree and only cost us a copay of $25. To us, it was well worth it. We will be back at 2 years for seasonal allergy testing, mold testing, and a battery of foods that I question.

InactiveTotally off topic, but Brenda I love the picture in your ticker of Carson looking up at his big brothers. Too cute!

InactiveThanks! I took several for Christmas cards and they work for the ticker also! They don’t always get along this well when they are this close to each other!

InactiveI don’t mean to take over but…
I have been wanting to have Adriana allergy tested because right now the only foods she can eat are oatmeal and carrots. She has reactions including mucosy stools and extreme difficulty sleeping and resting and her reflu gets worse.
So, I have a apt. with a ped GI on July 5th. Do I need to get a referral for an allergist also? Or can the ped GI do the allergy testing?

InactiveI am hoping that the allergy testing will help me to eliminate foods that bother my baby. My ped wants to just put her on formula…seems like a quick fix to me, thank goodness her GIPED is pro breast feeding. I am only having dairy, grains, fruits and vegetables done next week for her. I hope it can at least help me watch my diet for her, and not avoid unneccessary foods. She has been off of the zantac for four days because of the rash she had, her GIPED wants to give her system a rest and surprisingly she is doing pretty well, I wonder if the dairy was the culprit for her reflux flareups. I have been on a dairy ED for a week now.I sure hope we are on a better track soon.

InactiveAli’s mom – I would also ask them to test for soy. It is in sooo much food.
Jenny – any doctor can order a RAST test. And, it can be done for any foods. We did a full panel for Alex when she was 9 months old. Unfortunately, if they haven’t been exposed to the foods they are unlikely to show positive on the RAST. An allergist needs to do a skin prick test.

InactiveCarson had skin prick testing done. I really, really recommend it! It helped me so much to sort things out. There were foods that showed allergies but also foods that showed a slightly higher number than the test spot. Interestingly enough, THOSE were the foods that I consider Carson intolerant to! So very helpful for us! I then fed him the foods that showed no allergy/intolerance. It was a great tool for us! It only cost a co-pay which was $25.00. Well worth it for us!

InactiveWell, I get there and the allergist says that no way does my baby have an intolerance through dairy or anything else through my breast milk. ? Well, after his office staff said they would do testing, he was like no way. So, am I nuts for wanting to eliminate foods that she may be intolerant to through my milk? He said to eat all the dairy I want, which, after a visit to the GI is a totally different response than her. She said no blood in dd’s stool after two weeks of elimination diet..I am confused.

InactiveLast I knew an allergist could NOT tell if a child had intolerances. We were lucky with Carson and I do think we found his intolerances. I am not so sure about the allergist! Who is he to tell you to introduce milk back into your system? Has he ever dealt with a baby who has intolerances?? I think not!! I would tell your GI what the allergist said and I bet they don’t refer anyone else to go to this allergist. I feel bad for you. So, did you get any tests done? When he said no way – did you just leave?? What a nutcase!!
Carson is getting teeth and we haven’t slept much lately but in my half-awake mind, I think you were treated badly. Did your GI refer you to this allergist?

InactiveI would not start with the dairy – especially if your dd hasn’t had blood in her stools. I think the allergist needs a dose of reality.

InactiveNo, it wasn’t a referal, but I am going to get a second opinion and no way am I going to start dairy again, especially after we have had no colic since then. I just hope this prevacid helps and she can get comfortable again. She had a horrible flare up out of no where again last night. What causes that?

InactiveYou are asking the flare up King’s mother!! Carson is also having such a hard time. I took him in and she showed me that his back molars are just poking through. With reflux, it really can be anything that sets it off. I do think Carson’s reflux is under control until something sets it off. Teeth, ear infections, fluid, allergies – sinuses, crying excessively, =-=== you name it and it makes the reflux worse. I have learned to be a spy! and watch Carson when he sleeps to see if he is rubbing an ear or when he is playing to see what he is pulling on, etc. I hope the Prevacid works soon also. That could make a world of difference!
Glad to hear you aren’t going to start dairy. That could really set her off. So sorry you had to deal with an uncooperative doctor.
