Jenay,
So you are on Soy milk also. Did your allergist help with the dairy intolerance? What advice did he give. Oh my goodness 6 weeks. I can tell that Marshall’s is improving and sometimes it seems to be red again sometimes, maybe the milk is not out of his system entirly. I wonder how long it takes for all milk to be removed? Also what about vitamins and minerals and calcium that is not in the soy. I just want to make sure that my ds is getting all that he needs. Any help would be great.
Hi- The Allergist really didn’t help with the dairy intolerance. He indicated to me that we should just stick with the Soy to be on the safe side and we’ll eventually introduce milk as he grows older. Both the Allergist and my Ped have said that Soy Milk contains the proper amount of vitamins and minerals. My concern was the fat content, i was afraid of the lack of fat in Soy Milk and it’s link with brain development. However, my Ped has indicated he should be just fine. Can anyone else speak to this?

InactiveWe are on Neocate yet (almost 2) mixed with Rice Milk. I don’t know so much about the nutrition for brain development, but I do know that we don’t get enough calories with just rice milk. If you can get enough *real food* and calories into your LO and also give rice milk, I would think you will be fine. Carson has feeding aversions – he would actually rather NOT eat. He certainly didn’t get it from ME!
I think the testing almost isn’t necessary as you have found out what it is due to your trial/error. However, it would be nice to know if it is a true allergy or an intolerance. I was told the skin prick testing is more accurate than the RAST test but I can’t remember if a doc told me that or who it was. I do remember that Carson had a RAST test and it came back fine when I was BF him – but I KNEW that he couldn’t tolerate dairy due to my elimination diet. So, I know that the RAST can have false negatives. I would do the skin prick testing – and at that time you could add any other foods (berries) along with mold, pollen, etc that you suspect may bother him. We didn’t have to have a referal – we just went to an allergist that my friend had taken her kids to.

Inactivejenay,
for more fats you can give a omega 3 supplement. GREAT for brain development. we have the fish oil for children 8 mos. and up. there is also adult flax oil that you can give a 1/4 of the dosage too. but i LOVE the fish oil… we get it @ the health food store and it comes in strawberry and lemon flavor.
Also you can give foods with high fat/protien levels.. we give an egg yolk every morning.
and Cindy ,Shane also had his allery testing.. by the prick test. and it came up slightly for dairy/eggs.. soo i assume its what he is intolerant to. the dairy might not come up for you, but it doesnt mean that he isnt intolerant to it.. since you have seen the excema flare with it.. i would stay away from it for a while..
