Inactivemaybe you can go to a nutritionist and find out how you can get the proper protein/fats into him if you do almond/rice milk.

InactiveYou are not crazy. You need to do what you feel comfortable with as his mommy. If soy isn’t right for you then you shouldn’t have him on it. It’s not worth the added stress. As Natalia suggested, talk to a nutritionist and see what your options are. Remember there is always goats milk!
I know you were wanting to try that anyway… May 28, 2007 at 11:47 pm #34764Anonymous
InactiveYou have to do what you think is best for your kid. I’m on the other end of the spectrum than you. I don’t read up on the horrors of soy, vaccinations, plastics, etc. There is too much to worry about these days and I don’t need the added anxiety. I already stress enough when the docs tell me whats Gabby should be eating. (she is NOT a big eater) I’ve been told by several people to stop worrying (obsessing is a term I’ve heard quite a few times) about her intake. So, Lauren, I can TOTALLY relate. I do what I think is best for my family and my mental health. I’d say give goat’s milk a go.

InactiveYou have to do what’s right for you both. If you can’t sleep at night and are having anxiety attacks, then I’d try something different.

InactiveGo with your instincts Lauren. I’m sure there are plenty of other things that you can make work for Shane and he will do fine. It’s not worth the added stress if there are other options. Hang in there! You’ll find something that works for you guys.

Inactiveif you are crazy, so am I because I do the same thing.
If you are not comfortable with it, then it is not worth it IMHO. Seth never did well with soy but to be honest even if he did, I would have been concerned giving it to him in large amounts too. Hopefully, you will find another alternative.May 29, 2007 at 1:24 pm #34803Anonymous
InactiveI agree – if you’re nuts than I am too.
I am so neurotic about everything I feed my kids. I buy them goat’s cheese instead of regular cheese because of all the hormones in cow’s milk. I buy them only organic milk – again because of the hormones in cow’s milk. I was a nervous wreck about them being on soy for the short time they were on it. I scrub all their produce but I still worry myself sick about pesiticides and chemicals, but I can’t afford a 100% organic diet for them, so I do the best I can and I worry ALOT!!!I’d probably do the same thing you are doing. I’d talk to a nutritionist though, or do some research, just to make sure he’s getting enough fat in his diet because that is very important for neurological development until age two.

InactiveYou guys are too funny! But seriously, do what makes you comfortable. If soy is causing you stress, find something else. I do give Brianna organic cheese and milk, and we buy some organic fruit (mostly the ones like apples that have all that resin on the outside) but I try not to read too much on stuff.
I was talking with my prego friend the other day and her gyn told her not to worry about caffine, but NO aspertame…splenda in any amount was OK. My Dr. said aspertame and splenda were both OK, but no more than one a day. He said decaf coffee was bad. My other (prego) friend doesn’t do decaf because of chemicals used to make it decafinated. I know those are pregnant woman, but it just got me thinking about how there is so much conflicting information out there that you jsut have to go with what your gut says is right.

Inactivethanks everyone
..that made me feel better.. but my family still thinks i am neurotic. i guess that goes along with the whole “Reflux story” while they are at it
.i decided to try the goats milk.. i have always wanted to.. and who knows how he will do.. i’d like to do it before going to rice or almond.
wish me luck!

InactiveLOL!… and I thought I worried! (Christine, I’m glad to know I’m not the only one that washes fruit with fruit wash).

I think that partly the internet world is a cause of great information, but also great worry. You can find problems with anything that you search about. It’s too stressful, and often not warranted. The funny thing is that the stress is probably worse than anything else.
I really think that you have to do whatever makes you comfortable. My mil assures me that children in Japan are fed a lot of soy and soy milk and they are not any less healthy than children in North America.
Sometimes I catch myself stressing over things that I can’t change, and wonder what I’m going to do when the kids are in high school and I have to worry about drugs, sex, and scary people!
Anyhow, good luck in your decision. I’m sure you’ll make the right one.

InactiveI think a goat’s milk trial is a good idea. If he gets a rash or his reflux flares or he has any other reaction then you can stop it and at least know that you tried. I hope he does great on it!!!
My family thinks I’m neurotic too! But they also all say that I am an exceptional mother and that my children are very well cared for. I may be killing myself with stress and worry, but my kids are healthy and pampered!!

InactiveGood luck with the goat milk! I think it’s a good idea to give it a try now too. I hope it does the trick for Shane and will be the end of your search for something that works!
