InactiveNeed your help – is Carter on PT through EI and also PT privately? I think that is what i remember when talking about services. I want to start Matthew on some private PT… when we go to feeding clinic, the one thing that they will not be able to do is continue with his PT for those 2 months and they would rather see him strengthen his upper body before he goes (makes chewing etc easier)… How did you do it? My PT through EI does not do private… do i need a prescription from our ped and then i can contact other PTs???
Thanks so much!

InactiveHi Thais,
Exactly. Our insurance covers therapies 100%, so I asked our Ped for a script (truely a prescription that says PT services) and I gave it to the rehab center where there was a PT that had done amazing work with Dylan and then I made an appointment for him. I think you can contact anyone you want as long as it is covered by your insurance.
When are you leaving for the feeding clinic? I am so glad for you and Matthew that is happening!

InactiveThanks!! My ped will write the prescription no problem… so i will ask for it when we go see him next month.
We are not leaving for at least 3 months… the waiting list is 3-4months but sometimes they call you before if someone drops out. I feel that Matthew needs to be a little older, he will be 18months in February and i have heard that is ideal (they understand a ton but have not reach the 2s and control issues yet???) but who knows. I would like to give him a push with the PT before we go… he is improving, but slowly… i am also trying to speak to service coordinator about transfering PT services to Baltimore but you know how it is – they have no idea hwo to do antyhing and it is going to take a while to know if this is possible!!

InactiveYou may be better off just going private when you are there anyway. You will have more control over timing, etc…
I find that the EI PT takes a more Developmental approach where the private takes a more medical approach. I think we are benefitting from both right now, but I think if I feel one becomes more valuable than the other, then I will switch. It sounds like there are probably a team of developmental people in the feeding center, so you will get that approach in all other areas, that the medical might be all that Matthew needs when you are there. Also, I find EI teaches us how to do things and the private PT takes over and works on him straight through. Both are great, but I feel like it is a little easier on us with the private….

InactiveGreat, thank you! You are prob right and i will have to try the private PT… but i feel like until i know his schedule exactly and where we are going to live etc it is going to be tough (vs EI who can usually come wherever you are…).
Our PT is fine – but i do not think he has that much experience with babies with Matthew’s problems (ie he is walking but cannot transition) and sometimes he makes him reach etc etc and i am thinking – this is not right! Oh well – maybe i will also switch PT???
The feeding clinic wants his upper body strong so that they can push textures… so i have to find out the best way to get there!
