I am having the same problem as Lavina. Jack gets at a bath at 6:45, starts the going down process at 7 ish with PJs, book, bottle. Then he is up every 2 hours at the max. I think he is eating the most at night, and so I have tried to increase daytime bottles and solids, but he is not having it. Also, b/c he is a gerdling, he is used to taking little more than 4 ounces at a sitting. He naps about 1.5-2 hour safter waking in the am and usually every 2 hours after that, but only for 30 mins at a time, the longest being 1 hour and 45 mins, which is rare. Is it habit? How do we break it without being cruel? I love that we have done baby-led feeding til this point, but I have fears of him being 28 years old eating cold pizza in the kitchen every 2 hours 😉 Any suggestions?

Every 3 weeks or so had a big sleep for 3 hours (exhaustion). She has improved so much since then that I look back at the difference and think how she was obviously still in alot more pain then, to keep waking so much.
The biggest improvement came from my diet (dairy AND soy free and lots more … eggs, wheat big irritants) … and putting her on a careful schedule ie. only feeding every 3 hours during the day and being regular say 8, 11, 2 etc.. and putting her down at least 1 hour after last feed … and I think she was getting better herself. Suddenly the naps started to go from 45 min to 1.5 hours during the day.
Our nightime is still a bit of a disaster, but she does go for longer stretches now than she did back then… so all in all it does get better… but as you know from my post it is so gradual…
Good luck

My son has severe reflux and has very frequent night wakings and we’ve been going through this since he was 6 mos old. Well, he always woke up a lot, but it got severely worse at six mos. Since then we’ve done a lot to control his reflux (he’s 16mos now) but he still wakes on average 4 times a night and it is still mostly (I’d say 80-90%) reflux related. He’s also MSPI, so we’ve done a lot to correct that issue as well. It depends on how severe their situation is, how under control you can get things with meds and environmental factors, ie. sleeping propped up, etc., and how close they are to walking. You can expect for these night wakings, if they continue and are clearly reflux related, to hopefully get better with sitting, then with crawling and with walking. For us, it was really walking that helped the most, as they are mostly upright most of hte time. Have you had any testing done? Does the baby wake in obvious pain each time? Does he wake crying hard? Does he cough or burp after you go to him and pat his back or pull him into a sitting position? do you smell acid on his breath? All these things are signs of reflux in the night. Our first specialist said that just from me telling her that Lucas was coughing at night and waking crying all the time that was enough to warrant testing. She said the night cough was very serious. So, these are things some people don’t realize right off the bat, I didn’t know about the coughing, etc. Write some more details and I can more accurately answer your questions.
Also, as to this lasting long into childhood, I really think unless your child has a lasting condition like a hiatal hernia (which my son has) or becomes one of the few children who never “outgrows” reflux, that it is very likely the night wakings will get better as time goes on. Time has seemed to be the biggest factor for us, that and meds, and eliminating dairy soy and some other things from our diet.
I know how horrible these night wakings are, as Lucas was up at least 8 times a night for soooooo long and it nearly killed me. But on the other hand, your baby is still fairly young and you have some milestones that might really help htings out like sitting unassisted and crawling, pulling up, etc. The more upright they are all day, the better things seem to be, even at night….usually. HAng in there, I really feel your pain.
