If you have seen any of my other posts, you know that I just started Abby on Neocate yesterday afternoon. So I have noticed since then that she isn’t finishing her bottles. When she was on Nutramigen she eat four 8oz. bottles and then one through the night. Plus I would give her 2tbsp of oatmeal before her daytime bottles. Now I have noticed that she is only eating about 6 maybe 7oz. per feedings, instead of the 8ozs.

Has anyone else noticed a decrease in ounces when switched to Neocate?

I really don’t think she isn’t finishing the bottles b/c of the taste. She drinks them fine until she gets to about 6oz. then she starts playing with the nipple and looking around. That makes me think that she isn’t hungry anymore b/c she is quite content. I called the GI about it. Before they were worried about her eating too much, now I just want to make sure she is eating enough. We are always at the ends of the spectrum, I hope we can get somewhere in the middle.

what i found is that if they are hungry they will take the bottle fine
at first. but if they dont like the taste they will only drink the
minimum needed to fill their tummies.

try switching more gradually.

6 ozs per feeding is pretty good. She will probably get used to it. I think if you got her to drink that much she doesn’t mind the taste. She may have been over drinking trying to sooth her stomach. I would worry as long as she gets around 6 ozs. per feeding.

Just talked to the nurse at the GI’s office and she said that what she is drinking is fine. 6 to 7oz. per feeding is good for her age. She told me that I could reintroduce oatmeal to her after a few days on the Neocate. She said 32ozs. was a lot for a baby her age, plus I would feed her 6oz during the night. I just hope she doesn’t want to eat more at night since she is eating less during the day.

Do most babies have to stay on Neocate till age 1? Do you use try to transition to something else once they are older?

We transitioned Colt to Goodstart at 12 months old. I have heard of some parents doing it sooner but its generally 12 months or even older.
