I thought we were all done with surgeries, but we just found out today that Bryce is probably going to have to have surgery on his eye! He has ptosis (droopy eyelid) and we’ve been taking him to a pediatric opthamologist since he was 6 mo. We take him in every 6 weeks just so they can keep an eye on his eyelid. So far it has been fine and not been getting in the way of his vision, but today the doctor said it has worsened and is now part way over his pupil. He said over time this will affect his vision, so he’ll need surgery on it right away. He referred us to an ocular plastic surgeon who we will see in a few weeks.Poor Bryce.
He’s been through so much already. But you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.January 23, 2007 at 7:55 pm #22967Anonymous

InactiveOh Heather i am sorry to hear that he is going to go through yet another thing – will be thinking about him extra hard. Hope you like the surgeon. I think that Megan (in the other board) had Maeve’s surgery done a couple of years ago (or maybe i am making this up – i get so confused)… but check it out…

InactiveHeather,
I’m so sorry to hear that Bryce needs another surgery! I wished they would have done it the same time as his palate surgery! I remembered you mentioned something about a skin tag, when he is under, do you think they would consider removing it too? I know it is only cosmetic but I remember somewhere it was mentioned as a possibility. Do you know when they are going to do it? I’m glad there is such a thing as a plastic ocular surgeon, it is nice they are concerned about his vision! Poor Bryce, that little guy is such a trooper! BIG HUGS!!!

InactiveThanks everyone.
Thais – I didn’t know Maeve had that surgery, I’ll have to check out the other board & talk to Megan… Thanks.
Sue-
I wish we had known to get his eye done too when his palate was done. At the time his eye was looking really good and they didn’t think he’d need the surgery. I’d really like to have the little tag removed too if he has surgery. I wonder if an ocular plastic surgeon would do it or if they only do eyes? Unfortunately our insurance probably won’t pay for it though since it would be considered cosmetic. I don’t know when it will be yet. I’m going to call tomorrow and schedule to meet with the surgeon, and they said it would be probably be 2 weeks before we could see him, so we won’t find out until then. I’ll keep you all posted.January 24, 2007 at 9:24 am #23002Anonymous
InactiveOh poor Bryce! I am so sorry that he will be going through this again and I am so sorry that you have to go through it again (we all know it is worse on the mom than the child) I will be praying for you both! Big hugs!

InactiveHeather, I remember watching your video of Bryce’s journey through his first year and being touched by the love and courage that was shown. I can’t imagine being in your shoes, but I believe that a family that has travelled your path will be able to overcome anything. I will be sending positive thoughts to your family and all involved in his surgery.
