InactiveCan I ask why you are looking to leave?

Inactivewell numerous reasons..
we have been wanting to get out of this area… my husband and i both of grown up here and are pretty much tired of it! fairfield county is VERY expensive, very stressful, and very high paced. we are having a hard time getting started. the average house here is about half a million! down there the homes are a 1/3 of the price as up here. as well as i dont like the freezing cold, i love it down south, and i would like shane to grow up in an town that is more community oriented( we dont even know our neighbors), and i feel like the people down south are A LOT friendly. as well as we are interested in a church down there that my husband loves the pastor (which is not the main reason but a bonus). and finally my husband is a mortgage broker and there is a lot of opportunity down there because there is tons of major development going up.
well thats all our reasons.. but the good news is that my parents and now other family members are looking into coming as well! soo we feel a lot better.

InactiveGot ya. I understand. We bought our first house in Stratford. Allbeit in Fairfield county we were on the outskirts and I, too, was not happy with the pace out there. I grew up 1/2 from the house we built in Chester, and there are onlly 2500 people in our town. I was just curious as I love it here so much! But I agree, that side of the state is a much faster pace than I can handle…
Let us know what you decide to do.

InactiveThat’s why I left Long Island. I couldn’t stand the congestion, the crime, the expensive cost of living, and most of all the rude people. Mid-westerners are so friendly and I love that. And I love that my children are growing up in a small town.
Good luck Lauren, with your search. I hope you find something soon and that your family will follow with time.

InactiveI live in Marietta, about 30 mins north east of Atlanta. I’ve lived here all my life and I love it.The community is great, very very family and child oriented. Where in Georgia are you looking to move? Atlanta is great (to visit) Olympic park is awesome with fountains the kids can play in in the summer. We hit all the kids attractions ALL the time, Children’s museam, the Zoo, the new aquarium is just amazing.
Where I live, is kind of re-vamping itself, there’s not a lot of room for new subdivisions, so contractors are buying older homes with a TON of land and building giant houses.
The farther north you go from Atlanta the cheaper the houses are-not in quality just in price. If we moved an hour north of us we could get a new house with a great backyard for under 200,000 or so. The same size house here could cost as much as 800,000. That’s kind of frustrating, but the school district we live in is always ranked number one ( something I sort of beg to differ with I went through it and didn’t see anything so amazing-lol) so houses here sell before they are even built!!
I wouldn’t live in Decatur…..but Alpharetta is AWESOME!!! Taxes are a bit higher b/c it’s in Fulton county but their school system is in my opinion better than the one we are in, it’s kind of a newish community which is good. My brother in law and sister are opening a coffe shop yhere!

InactiveHi Lauren, I just responded (again) to your PM!
Jill, I had to laugh at the Decatur thing too. It makes you wonder where the reporting agencies get their data. We had some friends that lived in Decatur years ago and they got out due to the crime! It was so bad, their neighbors put a sign in their yard for thiefs to go away because they had “nothing left to steal”!
I know they have really tried to clean it up though and revitalize the downtown square there so maybe it is better than it used to be. March 2, 2007 at 8:42 pm #26421Anonymous
InactiveWe live maybe 20ish mins from Alpharetta, a bit more or less depending where we go, but we’re up there all the time, austin has dr’s in Alpharetta. I like the mall there MUCH better than the one that’s closer to where I live. Playdates would be SO much fun, my sister has a 9 month old! The taxes aren’t that big of an issue in my opinion they’re really not that much higher (don’t know the actual #’s). I shop there and here and haven’t really noticed a huge difference in price! They have so many cool things here for kiddo’s and LOL I know ALL of them, a lot have been here since I was little. There’s an awesome petting zoo, all the animals are miniatures!! Aidan had a ball when we went.
LOL Tiffany, I know I was so suprised that that article cited Decatur, unless there’s some VERY tiny corner I don’t know about!!!
The area around Highway 92 (not actually a huge highway) is seriously growing-I think that’s in Alpharetta too, That’s where a friend of mine lives who got the house that is so much cheaper than ours and NEW!!!! I live in Cobb county and even though the taxes are a tiny bit cheaper, the houses are WAY more expensive (well, in East cobb, other places in Cobb are cheaper) it’s hard to find even an old house here for under 250-makes no sense to me honestly.
