Inactivejustices mom, if you scroll down she said her son hates any compounded meds, thats why she cant consider zegerid.
but i dont get that, because you can put zegerid in the bottle or do what i do and sneak it in the side of his mouth with a syringe.nataliachick72006-10-15 20:17:20

InactiveHailey also had a really hard time with texture and “saltiness” of the compounded meds. Her gag was so strong that we could never get her to take them… and there was no sneaking it into her mouth either- it’s like she could sniff out the stuff for some reason. Even if we could get her to swallow it using the usual “tricks” you hear of, we couldn’t get her to keep it down- she’d get so worked up at the taste of it, that she’d puke it up everywhere. And then she had feeding problems, so when you added them to the bottle she’d refuse the bottle altogether. So, of course, that wasn’t a good option. Medicating her has been great fun, so I can certainly understand when people say that their child refuses, or can’t tolerate a certain form of medication. All these kiddos can be so different, and what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another. Thankfully there are quite a few options out there. s&h’s mum2006-10-15 21:40:6

InactiveYeah, for some reason, some babies are harder to medicate than others. It can make things really tough.

InactiveShe “takes” it because I make her, as we have tried every med available to us. She HATES it, and usually gags and coughs after, and it’s not terribly unusual for her to vomit it back up at me. But I haven’t been able to get her to take the solutabs or the capsules b/c of the texture with her feeding problems, so this is really the only option we have. I use it because it controls her acid, but getting it into her isn’t fun.

InactiveWow! I am so sorry. I never realized all the trouble some babies could have taking meds. I know both of my boys would throw their meds. up sometimes, but for the most part they have taken them great. I hope for you that things will get better.

InactiveHey! just wanted to check in to say that Aidan is finally doing better, it seems that it was just a virus after all with added ear infections. He was his old refluxing self for a bit, screaming, not eating, not sleeping, (he gets mylanta all the time, I joke that the kid will have the strongest bones on earth with all the extra calcium he’s getting!!)But in the last 2 days he has gotten MUCH better, I guess that means the antibiotics are finally working…oh, I forgot to mention the other reason I won’t do zegerid, my insurance would never cover it. As it is they don’t cover the solutabs and I’ll be glad when he’s off his medicine. Thanks all for the support!!! Hopefully this will be his last ear infetion (of these I should say, both ears) for a LONG time!!! (doubtful with our family history but one can hope!!!).
