InactiveK-I totally know what you mean. It’s a deal you make with the tv. Ian doesn’t eat his bottles anywhere else now-at least not as well. Stroller ok. Feeding clinic told me once we’re full fledged cup it wont be an issue but they also told me they learn (even at this age) that they want entertainment while eating (hence solids we had to cheer him on). But like solids, I think we can switch them back through patience and work. I wouldn’t give her the sippy in front of tv IMO. Especially if you can get her to drink it because it’s with juice. That may be a good motivator…?

InactiveI haven’t had to give sippy/straw cup in front of TV but what happens
when we switch from bottles to cups? Just try without TV – did they
have any suggestions at the clinic how to do that – won’t she associate
milk with TV or only bottles?Solids she’s mostly OK with – so at least that’s good…

InactiveIn my humble opinion, if our children use a sippy like a bottle, then they may still need the tv. I guess some kids, especially those that use the Nuby sippy’s (more like a bottle) tend to use them like a bottle. Brodie doesn’t use a sippy in front of the tv, but the way he drinks from it is much different than that of a bottle. A bottle he continuously sucks until it’s gone, or he’s had enough. The sippy he takes a drink, puts it down, takes another, etc. It’s more like how we drink from a cup. Does that make sense?? RLM4262006-6-28 9:12:39

Karen ~ I agree with what Robin said about the type of sippy might depend on if they associate needing the TV or not. Hailey always drank from a straw cup so that was completely different than how she drank from a bottle. At first, Hailey did still drink in front of TV (I usually give her a cup of milk during Sesame Street or something) but the difference was that I didn’t have to sit down with her in front of the TV to feed her a bottle. Now she doesn’t really watch a lot of TV and drinks just fine so I do think they can change their thinking.

InactiveThanks again guys. Marisa uses a straw cup too – really only has water
or juice from it so far – I try to get her to take sips of formula from
it but she’s not interested… So Stacey – do you think Hailey just
sort of grew out of the TV habit as she got older and more active?June 27, 2006 at 9:31 pm #10690Anonymous
InactiveYes, I do think it was that she just outgrew it. She was 18-19 months before it happened. I was never able to get Hailey to drink formula from her straw cup either. For the longest time it was just juice or water. When we first introduced milk, she wouldn’t drink it from her straw cup either. It took about a month before she would drink it. I’m still amazed when I see her guzzle down a huge cup of milk. I NEVER would have thought she would do it.
