InactiveHi:
I haven’t been on this board for a long LONG time and am so thankful to see so many of my old friends who are still helping out those in need of reflux related advice. I don’t know what I would have done without you guys back when Abby was so bad almost 4 years ago.Anyhoo, I am wondering if Abby is still having some reflux type issues – she talks about her throat hurting and her tummy hurting and has occaisionally thrown up over the past few weeks. She will throw up once, then is fine for a week or so, then does it again. When she cries for various reasons, she will gulp and choke and I question if maybe the reflux is causing her some problems. I guess the question that I have is this? What type of OTC med would you try first and how much would you give? I have no idea of how much Cherry Supreme to even give her – I would guess she is between 35 and 40 pounds right now. I just want to try something for a while and thought you guys would have the best suggestions (as always)Happy new year to all of you and thanks for all that you do to help those in need!!RobinDecember 29, 2009 at 12:41 pm #65281Anonymous
Inactivei think i would try zantac or prilosec to see if you can stop the episodes—otherwise it seems like you would only be soothing them after the fact. unless maybe you wanted to try it when her throat or tummy are hurting and see if that stops the episodes from escalating into throwing up.
personally, i would probably call her ped gi and talk to him/her and see what they had to say.December 29, 2009 at 10:10 pm #65294Anonymous
InactiveHey! Great to “see” you on here again! I agree with Christine…the OTC meds will mostly be a bandaid for after an episode has occured. Although experimenting with them to find out if it soothes before going to an Rx would be a good idea too. It’s so much nicer when they’re older and can TELL YOU when/what hurts! I’d try a Tums or a squirt of mylanta the next time she tells you something hurts and see what she says and if it offers any relief.
I was thinking of you the other day Robin…I dug out my 30ml syringe you kindly mailed me way back when!
I think it’ll come in very handy again if/when I can get my ped to prescribe zegerid for Emma! December 29, 2009 at 11:09 pm #65299Anonymous
InactiveYou could always try Pepcid complete maybe a 1/2 tab when she says that her throat or tummy are bothering her. I have been taking it at night with this pregnancy and knock on wood it has been controlling my reflux very well up until the last 10-14 days but much better control for me than tums ever does. Good Luck.

InactiveI would try pepcid complete as well. That’s what we tried when Hailey had breakthrough.

InactiveThis sounds just like what I am going through right now with Ashlynn. Last night she said her neck hurt and pointed to her throat and last night she did not sleep worth a hoot. Ash has been off of her Nexium since June and no problems tell now. (hiccups like crazy the last few days–right before she gets them she coughs and then the hiccups start)
