InactiveWow… I don’t know what that rash is… But it doesn’t look like measles… I did lots of research on measles. It looks like an allergic reaction… from the research I did. I’m glad the prednisone is helping. Quinn’s rash is completely gone now. So who knows what she had too??? Seems you are right… a week for rashes!

InactiveOh wow! I don’t know how I missed this. That seems like a nasty rash! Glad to hear that the prednisone cleared it up.
Just wondering, what did the doc mean by her being too young for antihistamines?

Inactivelooks like hives—which would most likely be an allergic reaction to the meds she was on.

InactiveAlexis had the same rash, hives when she had an allergic reaction to sunscreen when she was 15 months old. We started her on Clariton syrup and prednisone and it soon cleared up, there was a few minor flare ups before it was completely gone. I guess with rashes and hives they say sometimes it gets worse before it gets better.

InactiveWell, today I queried the menu at daycare last week, and on thurs they had pork and EGG noodles…excuse me…egg under 1 year. Well we have put a stop to that particular dish….just in case of course. We may never know the allergen…but at least I know what “hives” looks like now

InactiveIsn’t it okay to give eggs under a year (whites I think) or foods that contain eggs?…. I know, this probably makes me look like the worst mother of the year!

InactiveAlso, Therese, a lot of vaccines use egg as a base, so if she’s allergic to eggs it’s something to find out for sure, and to talk to the ped about which ones are safe for her.

Inactivei’ve never heard that you shouldn’t give eggs under a year—-maybe things have changed since there seem to be so many more allergies these days. it seems to be the whites that are more of a problem—protein—yolks used to be recommended for babies.kevieb2007-5-15 11:49:30

InactiveYeah, I’ve always heard not to give egg whites until one year old, and egg yolks at 9 months. The suggestions change so often though… who knows what’s right.

Inactiveeggs yolks at 9 months are okay….egg whites are very allergenic and should not be used under a year old.

InactiveThat’s hilarious!… I always thought it was egg whites that were fine and not the egg yolks. In fact, I’m pretty sure our ped gave us a sheet that said no egg yolks go I used to make Sarah egg white omelets!

InactiveI am sorry about your little ones rash. My 5 week old woke up with a very similar rash this morning. I have cut out dairy since three days ago due to blood in her stool. SHe got a HEP B vac yesterday and I rubbed Aveeno lotion on her last night. Could this cause hives? Does anyone know if the HEP B vac has eggs in it? Thanks.
