InactiveOkay, my son has been bringing his knees to his chest everyday for over a week, all day and night. I took him to a gas specialist and they said its colic and that he is very gassy and put him on some drops. He has been on the for 24 hours and nothing yet. Is it common with colic to do this all day? I thought it was at only certain hours of the day that “colic” happened. Also, would it just come out of no where? I knew he was always gassy and brought his knees to his chest once in a while, but now, poor guy….its all the time.
Please tell me there is someone else out there that has the same thing or had the same thing going on….

Inactive“colic” is a 5 letter word for “i have no idea what is wrong with your baby”.
“colic” can be anything: acid reflux, gas, milk allergy, MSPI. either way, babies usually cry for a reason.
how can you really be sure its gas thats bothering him? my son brought his knees up to his chest when his reflux bothered him.
is he bf or on formula? maybe he cant tolerate milk protein or soy protein. my son was extremely gassy on both and we found out he is MSPI. the mylicon gas drops didnt do anything for him though.October 19, 2006 at 10:07 pm #16151Anonymous
InactiveHe started Nutramagin 2 nights ago. They think it may be a milk protein intolerance also. He has always been super gassy and he passes gas through out the whole day and night, and its explosive gas.
Did your son bring his knees up all day and night, I mean there is a few hours here and there that he doesn’t do it. But, mainly most of the day he is doing it, and when he does…he lets out a push type noise.

InactiveHi there,
I know of an infant massage move that you can use on your baby that really helps with gas & even constipation. My first son was pretty gassy and my husband and I used this with him. It really helped:
With your baby laying on his back, start massaging on HIS right side starting at the top of his right leg (on the abdomin). Massage straight up to just under the rib cage, then straight across to the
other side, then down the left side of his abdomin. You’ll be massaging
in an upside-down U shape. Does that make sense? Don’t go too deep, but as deep as he’s comfortable with you going. What you’re doing is following the shape of the colon.Of course, it only helps relieve the symptoms, not prevent.

InactiveI had a peditrician in the hospital tell me that Aidan was just “colicicky and didn’t have uncontrollable reflux” the first time she was hospitalized. I wanted to deck him because it was the first time he had seen her, and he didn’t seem to believe me when I told him how bad things were.
(((Hugs))) hun, I hope things get better.

InactiveHang in there!I can relate to how you feel. My son, who is now 5 and happy, cried for 5 months straight. I cant explain how stressed and miserable I was. I didnt have any idea about acid reflux and now I am convinced he had it but that my doctor wasnt very informed. We were in and out of the doctors office so much. They called it colic– because thats what they say when they dont know what is bothering the baby. He cried all day and collapsed exhausted at night. They did find a MSPI and he went on Neocate which helped some. But then the ear infections, and the asthma sysmpotms, rsv, croupe, and cronic cough hit. They have linked those problems to acid reflux because when they reflux it can actually go into their airways and cause problems. Now after reading the research they have done on acid reflux, I realized he probably had it all along. We didnt give him anything for it–no wonder he screamed for five months. If you can try some of the medications that they talk about on this website, I definitely would at least try them. I am trying compounded Prevacid for my 11 week old little boy Tanson right now. He doesnt have near the case his brother did, but I think he has silent reflux, which sometimes has less outward signs. He has had huge problems with nursing. But he is getting older and seems to be improving a little so if this medication causes side effects this time I will probably just get through the next couple of months. I just to see him in pain. I can remember so many nights of tears with my first son. It was so exhausting and I felt like people didn’t understand what I was going through, unfortunately especially the doctors. I knew something was wrong and that it wasnt just colic but I had no idea what. Unless you have had a baby that has “colic” then you dont know what its like. I think its hard for people to imagine a baby screaming for most of the day. My nerves were so raw. But there is hope that you might be able to get him relief with some of these medications. And it does get better, I promise!!

InactiveI love the picture. He is absolutely adorable.
I’m sorry he’s hurting so much.

If he’s MSPI it can take two weeks (or longer, I’ve read) for the proteins to leave his system. And like Natalia said, he may end up needing Neocate.
I don’t remember…is he on any reflux meds, and how much?
