InactiveI bought Tyler a Roundabout since he is miserable in his infant seat. I have a question for anyone who has one. It seems as if the belt that would go around his waist goes around the top if his legs not his waist and the buckle is at his crotch not his belly. Is this normal? Safe? Tyler is 17 lbs and 28 inches so he is not abnormally small or anything. This may just be different than the infant seat and I am not used to it but I wanted to check. THanks
Thanks

InactiveThat sounds right but it’s hard to be sure without looking at it. I would recommend that you take the car seat to a child seat safety specialist. You can find these volunteers at your local hospital and fire or police department. They can help you make sure that the car seat has been installed correctly and that Tyler is positioned correctly in it.

InactiveWE have the Roundabout and LOVE it. It does buckle at her crotch and at
the top of her legs too. She was never this oomfortable in her infant
seat and sits happily in it – looks outside, plays with linked toys,
dozes pretty well.I agree with Stacey though – best to take it to a specialist – we went to our local fire department.

InactiveI have two Britax seats for my girls and I’m pretty sure that’s the way they are supposed to fit. The lower straps are supposed to go across the tops of the thighs, not the waist. The crotch strap sits much lower than the belly, to keep the straps down on the thighs. This is the way a 5 point harness is supposed to fit, so that in an accident the shoulders and thighs absorb the greatest impact, not the belly where the internal organs are. You don’t notice it as well, but in the little infant rear facing seats the straps also go across the thighs, or they should.
The carseat clinic sounds like a good idea, too. I went to one and learned a lot. They are so very helpful.

InactiveJust as an FYI…you don’t have to wait for a “clinic” to get a car seat check done. You can call the fire or police department directly and ask for a child seat safety specialist. They will usually have someone working who does this for free. If that doesn’t get you anywhere, a local hospital should have the name and number of someone you can contact.

InactiveThanks. I think from the feedback that it is right. I thought so to begin with I just wanted to make sure. I called Britax as well to confirm. It just looks a lot different than the infant seat.
