Help! Ben stood up under the table this afternoon and really hit his head super hard. A knot formed immediately, and he seemed in a lot of pain. He was fine for the rest of the evening, but seemed really sleepy towards the night.
Should I be worried? He didn’t pass out at all, but he did throw up at dinner. I thought at the time, he just got choked on some meat and threw up, but now I’m worried about concussions.Any ideas?edited to add – I just went in to try to wake him. He opened his eyes for a minute, rolled over and said, “dada.” Is that enough, or do I need to try to really wake him up????Bensmama 2008-04-07 21:09:49 April 7, 2008 at 9:46 pm #50050AnonymousInactiveI would just check on him multiple times during the night to make sure his breathing is okay. I remember when Cooper was like 5 months old, I fell while I was carrying him and we both knocked the heck out of our heads. I took him to the doctor but the doc told me just to observe him. They usually only worry when they lose consciousness. If it would make you feel better and if it is possible I might sleep in his room so you can check on him. I bet he is fine but I understand your concerns. Keep us posted.

If you are worried, I’d call the doc even though it’s likely nothing to worry about. They also told us to wake them every hour at night to check on them.

I have seen a couple of skull fx and subdural hematomas from minor head bumps. Do not mean to scare you, but I rather you be overly precatious. Let us know

I have heard (not sure if true) that if the knot or bump forms that is better because then the swelling has a place to go or something? Better it swells out than in? Someone help me out here. Can you tell I have no brain left!? Two very sick boys here today so pulling things from my memory is not working well….April 8, 2008 at 1:17 pm #50068AnonymousInactiveI’ve also heard that a bump forming is a good thing. I would be concerned about the vomiting though. I’d at least call his ped. and ask them what to do. Hope he is better today and we’ll look for an update.
April 8, 2008 at 2:15 pm #50070AnonymousInactiveWell, he seems fine today. I woke him a couple times last night.. not every hour though. And there has been no more vomiting either. I haven’t checked his pupils closely, but I will after he wakes from his nap.
I was concerned about the vomiting too, but we have all passed around the 24 hour stomach bug within the last few days, and he is still not totally back to par. So, that could have contributed as well.I think I will call the ped. just to double check though.April 8, 2008 at 9:18 pm #50098AnonymousInactiveOh gosh, how scary! I hope that he is OK and it’s not a big deal.
