Since Noah is now into EVERYTHING, we’ve installed child proof latches on all the kitchen cabinets. We are now on our third attempt to buy cabinet locks that can actually keep out a 13 month old. I first bough the kind that attach on the outside around the knobs. They didnt fit quite right and Noah just pulled it off. Then I bought the brand that Babys R Us carries that installs on the inside. Within 2 days, Noah had broken them by pulling and dislodging the spring mechanism. Our last attempt was the Safety First brand and they seemed much sturdier and had more tension in the spring. Well today, my little guy figured out how to push down on lever to release the lock. I cant believe these locks cant keep out a 13 month old! Can anyone recommend a brand that actually works?

May 24, 2006 at 6:29 pm #8581AnonymousInactiveLisa – sounds like Noah is a doing great 🙂 By the way thanks for posting that picture… he is so cute… now we need to get Lori to post one… (sorry Lori, just teasing!)
May 24, 2006 at 9:25 pm #8585AnonymousInactiveLisa- For the drawers we use the drawer locks that won’t catch the fingers. For the cabinets, we basically only did the ones that were dangerous for her to get into and the ones in the kitchen. We kept a few that were okay for her with things like boxes and tupperwares. Anyhow, in the kitchen, we use the magnet locks (also for a couple of the ones in the bathrooms), and I really like them. Like any baby locks, they’re a pain in the rear, but we keep the magnet on the counter and I find that they’re easy enough once you get used to them. Thing is that they are very expensive, and also very hard to install- they need such precision that I think they need to be professionally done (or you really need to be handy) for the most part. They have managed to keep both kids- and unknowing adults-out (I think even a burglar would have a tough time with them!!). For the cabinets where we have two knobs, I use the safety first ones that look like a long U-shape, and you put it through the knobs/handles and make it tight. Those are also impossible to get through.
If you want to see them, let me know and I’ll send you some pics and show you how they work.
Thais- I don’t know why I can’t figure out how to do it. I made the picture small within the size constraints, and then uploaded it, but each time it says upload failed!!?? It’s a jpeg form from our digital camera, assume that’s fine. How did you do it????

May 24, 2006 at 9:44 pm #8591AnonymousInactiveThis is from TRISH, who told me how to do it in the signature
If you go to “User CP” in the top left corner of the screen and click it…then on the left click “Signature”…you can edit your signature from there.
For my pictures I resize them (must be no higher then 200 pixels, and no wider then 500pixels for the boards) and put them on Photobucket (free image hosting site) http://www.photobucket.com and link them here…if you need some help…let me know.
Also, if you go to CP, you can go to Edit Avatar… at the bottom you have the option to link one of your pictures… hope this helps, let me know!
Sorry Lisa for hijacking

May 25, 2006 at 8:47 am #8602AnonymousInactiveI’m afraid that I’m not any help on this one. I just wanted to say that I sympathize. We have funky cabinets, so it’s basically impossible to use the kind that you screw in. Any of the other kinds that we’ve tried, she’s been able to get through. So, we ended up moving all of the breakable things to the top cabinets and letting her play with the stuff on the bottom. For a few months, she made us crazy by pulling almost everything out all of the time, but she got tired of it and she rarely does it anymore.
May 25, 2006 at 9:17 pm #8638AnonymousInactiveThe ones we use are called Tot Lok. Here’s a link:

May 25, 2006 at 10:37 pm #8641AnonymousInactiveLori – Thanks for the link. I’m going out to get new latches tomorrow. Now my little stinker figured out how to get in the lazy susan and drawers too! He’s driving me crazy.
Also, I’d love to see some pics of the whole family too. I always have a picture in my head of what people look like that I chat with. Wanna swap?
