InactiveI was just curious if anyone knew anything about the new good start formula with probiotics. I have heard that probiotics are good for reflux. I asked my ped about it, and he said “it’s not going to hurt him if you want to try it.” Anyway, just looking for info. Thanks!

InactiveHi, I have seen the ads and saw it on their website a couple months ago when it first came out. Not sure if I would try it though. Only because it just came out.. BUT thats just me, I am a little neurotic with those things 😉 but I am SURE it couldnt be HARMFULL.
But yes, probiotics/acidophilus is GREAT for babies..expecially if they are not breastfed. If you want to, you can just use the regular goodstart formula and buy an infant probiotic @ the health food store to add to it.. and you wouldnt have to put it in every bottle. So, you can see how he reacts. But I was wondering why you are doing alimentum.? If Ben might be MSPI, I wouldnt go to the goodstart just yet.. Because it does have larger milk protiens then the alimentum does. If you’d like to you can also add the probiotic to the alimentum! That way if you think he is MSPI.. you can be safe with that formula..and also help aid digestion w/the probiotic. Sorry, if it sounds like I am rambling..kinda thinking aloud to myself 😉G’luck if you decide the new goodstart formula.. and let us know how it goes!August 15, 2007 at 6:53 am #41100Anonymous
InactiveI agree with Lauren. If Alimentum is helping then I would just add the probiotic to that. We use the Iflora baby b/c it is dairy and soy free. It goes into 1 bottle/day and has helped Cooper’s bm’s greatly. We now have only about 3/day and before we were having them with almost every bottle (up to 6/day).

InactiveYeah, I wouldn’t try it until it’s been around for a while. When the AHA/DRA formulas came out people thought it was great but it turns out that the AHA/DRA is a chemical, it’s not natural, and it causes some tummy problems for some babies.
I’d stick with the Alimentum and add probiotics if you want to try them.August 15, 2007 at 3:16 pm #41137Anonymous
InactiveThanks, everyone. I actually am not fully sure why we’re on the Alimentum….I think the Dr’s just aren’t sure what else to do–one of those can’t hurt to try it. He has not had an endoscopy yet, but the other tests have come back normal(blood tests, upper g.i., swallow study). He has been through so many different meds too(zantac, prevacid, prilosec, and now zegerid 20 mg), and he seems to be better for about a week or so on the new med, and then goes back to screaming and arching, etc… For example, he had a bottle at 3:45 this a.m. and refused (and I mean outright shrieked) another bottle until 1:30pm…and even then he only took 3 oz. He wouldn’t even put the nipple in his mouth. He saw it coming and began to scream. I think everyone’s at their wits end. I know I am….I just feel so sad seeing him in pain.
Part of the problem is he is having no problems at all gaining weight. He is 4.5 months old and weighs about 20lbs. He is a BIG boy (97% for height and weight). So, I don’t know that anyone is fully taking me seriously when I tell them what’s going on. Grrr…well, thanks for letting me vent!JodiAugust 15, 2007 at 4:03 pm #41139Anonymous
Inactivehmm.. it sounds like he might be Diary AND OR soy intolerant. A lot of babies that do well for about a week or so and then go back to screaming again is usually because thier formula is upsetting them. Anyone correct me if I am wrong. I think I would try the alimentum for a while longer..and give the probiotics a try too..
I am not familiar with Zegerid..but maybe someone who is on here can help you with a good dosage that he should be on. I know 20 lbs is alot and i think he “might” need an increase with his meds.
