We just received notice from Seth’s daycare that he was exposed to chicken pox by someone in his class. He has had the vaccine but had a fever over the weekend, poor appetite and is still fussier than normal. I took him to the ped. Monday and his ears, throat and nose looked good but they did give him some eye drops since they said he was borderline pink eye in both eyes and just said he had a viral infection. Is there anyway he could have chicken pox without the blisters? I know they can still get a mild form even with the vaccine. I just want to make sure he is not contagious since we are having company for Easter.
I have seen kids who had, had the vac. get a mild form of chicken pox, but they always had at least a few spots. (I worked in child care and schools for 13 years, so I have seen a lot of chicken pox!) I have seen kids get a fever a few days before breaking out. keep and eye on his underarms and tummy area. They usualy show up there first.
It takes close to 2 weeks from exposure to actual break out, so if you were just notified, it’s not likely that he’s actually getting them yet. We’ve had several students get them lately despite having the vaccine, so it’s definitely possible. Fortunately, they all had fairly mild cases. Good luck!
