Inactivemost of my kids photos have been taken at places like penney’s, walmart or kmart. i have usually been happy with them—but i am mostly having a picture done just to preserve the memory of how they looked at the time. i’ve only gone to an independent photographer about once. quite often, i have taken my preschoolers to the public school when the other kids were having school photos done. our local schools usually have a time set aside just for parents to bring in younger siblings for photos. i used to worry more about how my kids looked in their photos—wanted their hair and clothes to be just so. i used to make myself very uptight and crazy over this. i finally realized that most of the time, my kids hair and clothes ARE NOT “just so” and i was probably getting a more realistic picture of my child if they weren’t curled and primped. i just made sure that their hair was combed and their face was clean—it’s been alot better on my nerves!!!
however, if money weren’t an issue, i might take the time and spend the money to get fancier pictures done.
sylvia was so fussy as a baby, that for her first picture i just had my sister come over with her good camera and take a picture for me when she was several months old. her next picture wasn’t until she was over a year old. i just barely went in last month and had her picture taken at walmart. i had all my other kids pictures taken on a more regular basis.
one of my kids has a picture, when he was a year old, with a blue cast on his broken arm—his next picture, he had a really dark purple black eye—–poor kid looked like he was abused. his next picture, i happened to take him in a few days earlier than i had originally planned, or he would have had stitches in his forehead. but you know what, he was a very busy boy and the photos give an accurate description of what he was like.
sorry for the long-windedness—–i just took a painkiller and 1/2 of a caffeine pill—makes me really chatty for a little while.LOL!!

InactiveWe just got school “graduation” pics done of Sarah and they also took sibling shots at their preschool. They turned out hilarious! Apparently Hailey was not happy and is sucking her fingers, and Sarah looks like a combination between really confused and making funny faces. They said that because she’s going through this wierd smiling face stage (VERY exaggerated with eyes closed) they tried to coach her out of it a bit, and they just ended up looking bizzarre. We NEVER took Hailey for professional pics, I guess because I didn’t want any pics of a screaming hysterical baby covered in vomit… but I agree with kevieb on this one.. it’s more about preserving the memory to me then anything else. Be sure to share wherever you get them done!

InactiveThanks everyone. Seth missed school pics last time because he was out with pink eye so it has been a while since we had any made and people are asking us for more recent ones.
We have done JC Penney’s and Portrait Innovations and the actual pictures were fine but a long wait at both which I know will be an adventure now that he won’t stay still. I do like how at Portrait Innovations you get the pics right away.
I do need to follow the advice to not fret over so much on how he looks. It seems like every time I plan to take him, he will have a runny nose or or his hair will be too long (or too short if it was just cut) which makes me prolong it more but I guess what does it really matter, that is the true Seth!
I will definitely share when we do finally go and when I figure out how to add them to my signature..

InactiveWe do Portrait Innovations as well. They have gotten some great pictures even when the girls are cranky. They also do pictures at day care twice a year.
