InactiveOh no, Anne! I thought that Lucas was a good sleeper now! I was going to pm you to ask you for any tips for Hailey. We just got her a big bed and are going to start weaning off night feeds and sleep training. I’m open for any suggestions!

InactiveIT’S WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT, BUT IT’S WORKING!!!!!!!!!! Last night I put Justice in his crib and sat on the floor and he went right to sleep. He only woke at 2 am and actually got himself back to sleep. I didn’t even get up and it only took him a few seconds. GOD IS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His nap today took forever to get him down, but who gives a crap right? I think he is actually on his way. Can you believe it? I am honestly thinking about writing a book after this. I am so excited.

InactiveThat’s great! You really should patent your “method”! You can become the kinder, gentler sleep lady!

InactiveJustice is wearing me out. Bedtime is going great. He is only waking once a night. I had hoped at this point it wouldn’t be at all, but hey from where we were that is great. His naps however are still horrible. I feel like I must be doing something wrong. I am tired myself and would love a nap, but by time I get Justice to go to sleep, Luke is waking up from his nap. I think darkening the room might help, but my dh doesn’t want to spend the money for the black out shades. I understand, but it is driving me crazy. My husband sells cars and business is not so great right now. Just to clarify.

InactiveWhat time do you try to get him to nap?
I used to let Myles catnap in the car or stroller or at home in the morning and then put him down for one long nap at the same time my girls were taking a nap. It worked well for us because the little catnap would get him through the morning but he’d be good and tired by noon or 1 pm, so he’d take a good long nap when the girls went down for their nap.

InactiveShelby, When I wondered about the room darkening shades I started by hanging a big quilt over the window just to make sure that it would help. It did, so we then bought the room darkening shades but I would hate for you to buy them it if isn’t going to help. I know it looks terrible
, but maybe try a quilt/dark colored blanket over the window to see if it helps. I sure hope they start napping at the same time for you. I know a nap is so necesssary for me!

InactiveI gave up on the first nap. It took forever to get him to sleep for that nap too. He won’t go to sleep in the stroller, but I do try to get him to take that nap if we’re out and I can have him in the mei tai. His nap is usually anywhere from 12 to 2. I usually try putting him down at 12.
Brenda, great idea. I don’t know why I didn’t think about it. How did you get the quilt to stay in place?

InactiveBefore I found room darkening fabric I took a blanket and nailed it up over the window. Very unattractive, but it did work. If you use really skinny nails you should be able to pull it all down when you decide to. I had no problem getting it down when I needed to.

InactiveOur windows had a curtain rod where I hung a valance. I just swooped the quilt over the curtain rod and let it hang about 1/3 of the way in the back and let the rest of it drape in the front. Again, looks horrible, but it will let you know if it will work!

InactiveAn ugly but cheap and easy alternative… heavy duty black garbage bags. (I know, but desperate times call for desperate measures.) This is what we had over Hailey’s windows for the first year of her life. I taped two together length wise so that it was like a long curtain, and then taped two “panels” to cover each window using that clear packing tape. It worked like a charm. Then we graduated to blackout roller shades which is what we have now. It really does make a difference.
