InactiveHi Everyone! I convinced my son’s pediatrician to try Zegerid yesterday (he had never heard of it). I am concerned that he might not be on the correct dosage…the ped prescribed 20mg packets and told me to give him 1/4 of a packet 2x a day. I am mixing the packet according to the marci-kids recommendation, but then I read that he should be getting a minimum of 3.5ml per dosage to assure enough buffer. I am also reading that some of you who use zegerid also use mylanta when administering the medication. I am confused as to why you use the mylanta. Does Dr. Phillips have a website where he talks about this medicine? Any input into this medication would be greatly appreciated. By the way, my son isn’t in pain from his reflux(or at least he doesn’t scream, etc.)…but I did notice that while on prilosec his reflux episodes were lower for the first two weeks and then increased after what I believe was the less stability of the prilosec suspension. This is why we switched to zegerid.

Inactivehi there
im a little confused as to why he’s on a PPI if he is not in pain? PPI’s shut off acid pumps so there is no more acid that comes up and burns the esophogus. if he is spitting up but not in pain, i dont see why he would need a PPI??
and you only need mylanta with the 40 mg packs as they dont have enough buffer. if you are giving a minumum of 3.5 ml at a time then you dont need the mylanta.
i mix 6.5 ml of water with a 40 mg pack.
my son is 5 months and 13 lbs and on 42 mg a day- 14mg 3 times.nataliachick72006-10-13 18:25:33

InactiveHow much water are you mixing with it?
I mix 6.5ml of water with one packet of powder, this makes about 10ml of medication. Then I give him 5ml of med 3x’s a day. He is 6 months old, and 17 lbs, though. I think I would be confused too at what your doctor prescribed.
Hopefully some of the expert Zegerid Moms will jump in here, and explain it better. If not, you can email Dr. P directly, or so I’ve read.
We have had GREAT results with Zegerid, congrats on getting your script. BTW, have you seen the coupon on their website? The pharmacy takes $30 off our copay!

InactiveJennifer, we also found that Hailey’s reflux episodes were less frequent when she was properly dosed on a PPI. It seemed that her whole system was just a bit more settled, and less acid might have decreased the volume of her stomach contents.
I know that http://www.marci-kids.com has information about mixing zegerid, but I don’t know how up to date it is. If you’re having trouble, then you can call marci-kids directly and they can help you out. Hope that you can get things sorted out. Good luck.
