CONSTIPATION FROM NEOCATE

I need some good advice… Grayson has been on Neocate just a little over a week and he is in extreme pain. After giving him Kayro with no luck and him screaming for an hour to pass a little hard ball,I finally broke down and gave him a suppository. Bless his heart..that caused a major blow out that once over seemed to make him feel a little bit better. I know that Neocate can cause constipation and the benefits of it far out weigh the negative. My ped gastro has called in Miralax for him but I was wondering if any of you have used Flax seed oil? I have heard this is very good and if I can use something natural I would much rather do that. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Hi there. We didn’t have luck with flax oil. It just made Marisa vomit
more and didn’t seem to help her go (probably because she brought most
of it back up). We did have GREAT success with Miralax – we only needed
it for a few days.

Some others have had success with juice – but if you go that route I’d
only use white grape juice (diluted half and half with water). We found
pear and prune juice and apple juice to cause gas and cramping.

I wasent sure about the juice as I am not sure what he is allergic to and what he isnt as we are just now exploring this.

Matthew was constipated for a few days while on soy formula — we gave him a spoonful of milk of magnesia and that worked wonders for him. Don´t know about flax seed oil, but some people here use it, so maybe try that for a couple of days?
