InactiveLadies, I also have a question: can you use it for chicken or is it meat only and does it come with recepies or can you get recepies that are made for crockpots specifically? Thanks.

InactiveI’ve never made chicken in mine, but I think you can make any meats in them. Mine came with a recipe book. I’m sure you can find recipes on line too.

InactiveI’ve made chicken, pork and ham in mine. The pork was a little dry, but the other two turned out pretty well.

InactiveThere are tons of recipe sites for crock pots/ slow cookers… really an abundance online. http://www.crockpot.com has some as well.
Apparently you can cook chicken, but I’ll let you know when I actually try it.
Christine, good point about babysitting the appliances… I run the dishwasher and go out, so I guess this is no worse. (probably better, actually?!)

I don’t leave the stove or the oven on.
Ditto, although I occasionally leave the hair straightener on,
.I’ve done chicken and it was OK, better acutally than normal. It had more taste.
I just do anything in it, I don’t worry about it being a crock pot recipe…any soup, casserole etc. They all taste pretty good.
Alana loves anything out of the crockpot as well.
Tonight is redwine and beef casserole

Inactive35 bucks for meat! Yikes! Anyway, I LOVE my crock pot. It is a life saver when it gets too hot here to turn on the oven. I leave mine on all of the time while I am at work. That is their main appeal- you can cook while you are away.
My favorite thing to do is to put a whole chicken in it. You can put potatoes, carrots and onion in the bottom and just sit the chicken (breast side up) on top (I usually rinse the chicken off first) and then pour some chicken broth over it (I buy the Swanson low sodium, no MSG kind) and then sprinkle some basil on top or another very good thing is to just pour a bottle of Italian dressing on it. Cook on low for 10-12 hours or high for 5-6 hours. Make some rice and dinner is done.
You can also do the same thing with stew (beef) meat or a beef roast but use beef broth and oregano or the Italian dressing.
Happy Cooking!

InactiveWe use our crock pot quite a bit too. I’ve done the chicken with veggies like Tiffany said except I sprinkled gravy mix over it all and added water. It turned out really good. We also have made a really good Thai soup, burrito filling, sloppy joe filling, and tons of other recipes with it.
