Is there a difference in tolerating corn vs. corn syrup? I thought I remember reading about there being a diff’t allergy test to separate the 2?!
The reason I ask is that Evan has seemed to tolerate corn chips (cooked in corn oil), corn tortillas as well as small amounts of white corn (canned)… but whenever I’ve had various types of foods that contain corn syrup he reacts w/ mucousy diapers, etc.
i don’t KNOW this, but i am guessing that there could be a difference in being able to tolerate a whole corn product as opposed to isolating a particular component of corn and then being exposed to it. sometimes we can tolerate something when it is in it’s whole form—just maybe because there are other components to the product that help to buffer or stop the reaction of a single part of it—-hope that made some sort of sence.
i’ve always heard that the sum of the parts does not equal the whole when it comes to food.
Sue’s daughter, Taylor, I think( correct me if I am wrong) showed an allergy to corn syrup, however, I think she also showed a reaction to corn, so I am not sure. But since people who have a soy allergy can often eat the soy oiils, maybe the same is true with corn that you can have the actual corn, but there is something in just the syrup that bothers Evan. Goodness girl, what are you eating these days? You get the mommy of the year award!
Emily- I’m still eating pears, potatoes & beef. That’s still my “official” baseline foods. How are you doing? I saw in another post you’re still nursing! Lucky Brianna to have a good mommy like you!
