Crib bumpers

Ian’s finally sleeping well again-seems the screaming fits have passed. However, he does wake up upset when his legs/feet get caught between the crib rails. We never used a bumper (although we have a very nice one) because of fear of sids and I wanted to see him (we share a room-nyc). Any suggestions? Is it safe to add bumper back? He’s only 6 months so I still worry about suffocation… Also, will he freak if he now can’t see us? Maybe that would only last a night or two…

Marisa went through a stage of this – she would get her legs jammed
into the crib rails. Anyway, here is a link to the bumpers we used.
They are breathable and mesh and he’ll still be able to see you
somewhat. We love them! She has her own little room so seeing us isn’t
an issue but we still wanted the breathable ones because she is an
active sleeper and we didn’t want her face pushed up against the
traditional bumpers – especially now that she often rolls onto her
tummy and sleeps much of the night and some naps that way.

The SIDS risk also does decrease some after 6 months. Still a concern, but not as high.

I worried sick about my firsborn because she insisted on sleeping with her face pressed against the bumber. If I took the bumper out…same problem, she’d get her arms or legs stuck.

I found the solution and used it for my second child and I am using it for my third. It’s called the Breathable Bumber. You get it from One Step Ahead. I tried pressing my face against it and you really can breathe through it, yet is still offers some cushiness and will keep arms and legs inside the crib.

We also used a mesh bumper to keep stray arms and legs from getting stuck between the crib slats. The best price I found was at Walmart ($19.84). Here is the link:

We added regular crib bumpers at age 6 months because of this problem.
