Seth has a croup like barking cough. He’s had it before and it resolved on its own but this time, he also sounds hoarse. I really think its from being outside in the cold (it’s been freezing here!). Do you think I should take him to the dr.? What can I do to help?
Do you think it is actually croup or just a cold? For Claire, croup has always required steroids (2xs). But they always suggest using the vaporizer, steaming up the bathroom and then taking them outside. The hot to cold transition is supposed to help shrink the swelling in the throat. then use Tylenol or Motrin for the fever and throat pain.
Sorry Naomi, we must have been posting at the same time. He did have a cold last week (runny nose, saying his nose was burning). Now that he has diarreah, it is very likely he does have some sort of virus. Thanks for the suggestions.
Poor Seth. Cooper just got put on Amoxicillin b/c of a cold that just won’t go away and is now affecting his sleep…. She said he just needed alittle help to get rid of it. I hope that Seth starts feeling better soon.
Well, I guess the good news is that I’ve never heard that croup comes with diarrhea, so it’s likely some other type of virus. Although, now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure that any cold can turn into croup at some point.
However, I guess diarhea is never good news, is it???
Oh no. Hope he feels better soon. Hailey needed steroids last time she had croupe too. If he doesn’t feel better soon, I’d take him to the doc, but I’m strange that way.
Thanks again, everyone. His cough seems a little more productive today. We ran his humidifier last night and used the Vick’s pediacare plug ins so now he just sounds really congested. He is also sneezing so I think he may just have a bad cold. I am ready for Spring!!!!!
