Good afternoon, I have not been here in awhile as my son Grayson is doing a good bit better these days. I am here today to ask for advise for one of the little boys in Grayson’s daycare class… and a little for me also. Donnie is 18months old and weighs a whopping 20lbs. He is constantly sick with one thing or another and I have been pleading with his mother to put her foot down with her PED and get him to a gastro.. well she finally did and they are now testing him for Cystic Fibrosis. I printed some information for her to look at as she left the doctor a bit confused. While I was researching CF I noticed that the symptoms “mirror” alot of Grayson’s problems.. except the weight gain problem. I also noticed that one article referenced babies with CF being born with cyst or growths in or on the nose.. which my baby has. Has anyone here dealt with CF at all?
Hi- I can’t say I have a lot of experience with CF but my dd was tested at an early age. This may sound crazy but lick your son. If he tastes salty call your ped and get him formally tested if not the I would just mention it to your ped the next time you have an appt. CF children have a salty excretion from their skin that is quite noticable. It is not I repeat not medically reliable but it can give you some peace of mind. Good Luck
I dont have first hand knowledge, but my dd was tested (her throat and lungs get clogged with thick mucous, but we found out it was food/protein related)….and the testing sucks….my friends dd was tested at age 4 and it was horrid….neither kids have it….but the salty sweat thing I have also heard to be a good indicator, but even if the sweat doesnt taste salty and you have concerns it never hurts to ask your dr.
