InactiveI know we have had a lot of recent posts about probiotics and what brands are best. Can someone tell me if Nature’s Way Primadophilus for Children is labeled as dairy-and soy-free? At the Nature’s Way website I couldn’t find the answer, but on a retailer’s website it said that the product is free of dairy and soy. Right now I’m using an adult probiotic in smaller quantity and I would rather get one that has bacteria more geared towards what is usually in a baby’s belly.
Thanks

InactiveHi Ruby-
No it doesn’t say that. It says “may contain traces of ..”. We’re having the same issue here. No probiotics have worked because of Ian’s (seemingly more serious than originally thought) milk allergy. Our doctor told us to try VSL3 which is made from dairy but taken out during the fermenting process so they’re allowed to say it’s a ‘dairy free’ but not ‘non-dairy’ product. Ian was on that for two days and was exremely irritable with watery eyes and sneezing. But maybe if Henry is less sensitive??
If anyone has had success with another product, we’d also love insights! Thanks.

InactiveI use Natrol Acidophilus. I bought it at Walgreens and it is MSPI safe. I have never seen any side effects and she has been on it for about 2.5 months btrue2006-5-8 10:46:5

InactiveSo far so good. I just went to the website and this is what it said: No yeast, wheat, corn, milk, egg, soy, glutens, artificial colors or flavors, added sugar, starch or preservatives. Stacey (debit34) is the one that I got the idea from and her little one is med free and on whole milk. They come in a pill so you can add it in food. Emma doesn’t eat hardly anything so I mix it with water and give it to her in a syringe. I usually give it 2 times a day. i was a little worried that her reflux was coming back b/c she started getting hiccups again but I don’t think that is the case. She has been reflux free for at least 3-4 months. I really do think they have helped her. She is not sick as much either. Good luck!!

Two last questions-do you buy a children’s version or just regular? And how much of the pill?
Thanks Brandy-I’m encouraged there’s hope!

InactiveThanks!! There is hope. Emma just had an ear infection but overall she is getting better day by day. I just can’t believe how much she has accomplished, she is such a trooper.
Here is the link to Walgreens, http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=100163& navAction=jump&navCount=0&id=prod374563 #
They are not a childrens version, just regular. I told my GI what I was giving her and she was fine with it. She was actually suprised I found one that was MSPI safe and she is now recommending it to her other patients that are having trouble finding one. It comes in a capsule (sorry I said a pill earlier) that you can pull apart so you can just sprinkle it over the food or use a syringe with water in my case. It is so much easier than having to split a pill. I use the whole capsule, 2 capsules a day. Emma still cannot tolerate milk yet so I am not missing a dose, I am really hoping that she can tolerate it soon. I hope it works for Ian. Between 8-10 months Emma really started to turn around for the best so his time is coming!!

InactiveThanks Brandy! It is encouraging to hear Emma’s doing so well. I’ll cross my fingers for you that milk is to come soon
. I bought Natrol today and will probably start with half a capsule tomorrow just to be safe. I feel good about it.This is a little off the topic (apologies) but really quickly – how did you discover Emma was mspi? Just curious these days and try to poll others. Ian was on Nutramagin and cried and refluxed alot but had occasional good moments. Now, whenever we go back and even try an ounce (been on elecare now for 5 months), he had blood in stool and tons of moaning. Just plagued by why it’s gotten worse for him rather than better.
Again, really happy for you!

InactiveThanks. I really didn’t think Emma had MSPI, just now thinking she does, but only a slight case. At first I knew she had reflux really bad. We went to soy and that was horrible so I knew she was soy intolerate. Well then I went to Alimentum when she was around 5 months. She never had any tests done, never had eczema, never had mucous or blood in the stools it just seems to be the only thing that worked. I didn’t get her meds figured out till she was around 10-11 months so I thought it was more of a med issue then a MSPI/milk issue. I decided to do a hidden milk trial for the first time at 13 months old, ice cream, yogurt, cheese. It went great for 2 weeks then the diarhhea hit hard, even stringy mucous in one so it did feel like we were going backwards. As soon as we stopped the diary her diahrrea subsided. Then about 1 week later she started having really bad gas and 2 patches (small) of ezcema. One on her leg and one on her hand. So maybe she is MSPI afterall. It is all a guessing game and if the Elecare is working for him then I would not worry about it at all. If Emma has to be on Alimentum till she is 2 then so be it, whatever they need in order for there tummy to get better. Sometimes it just takes a while. How is the probiotics going??
