InactiveNAKDD is now almost 6 mos. Still batteling reflux. On Prev 22mg a day. EBF. Had an uppr GI.GI doc wants a dge study. Problem is she can’t eat for 4 hrs b4, they will only do the test at 1pm. She will be a mess if she eats at 10 and not till 1.The Prevacid is helping some. But at least 4-5 days as week she still cries out & clenches her little chest. We std solids & she loves food-but every time she eats solids it seems to POP back up & sit in her throat. Is there a test to see if there is a spasm or something causing the food to *pop* back up?He mentioned an endo but said she’d be admitted overnight, is that common? Also they did blood & stool tests looking for milk/soy/egg etc. allergies & they came up negative. Each formula I ever gave her (milk or soy) gave her a rash & upset her tummy. Are those tests accurate?October 30, 2007 at 9:15 pm #44807Anonymous
InactiveThis same thing happened to Bryce when we tried starting him on solids around 7 months. He would eat everything, and loved it, but at some point it would all come back up almost like it was just sitting in the back of his throat. We had a swallow study done. You might want to ask to have one done. It’s very simple. We found out Bryce had a motility problem and dysphagia.
You may just need to wait awhile before starting solids. It seems like a lot of babies with reflux have very immature digestive systems and do better to wait on solids.
Good luck with everything!

InactiveIs a swallow study the same as a DGE test?

InactiveWith the DGE test I believe they will do a scan to watch how fast the food empties out of her stomach. With a swallow study you will feed her barium at different consistencies and they will watch her swallow through an x-ray.

InactiveThis may sound overwhelming, but an endocospy, and emptying scan,a swallow study can be very positive in diagnosing/ruling out serious things.
If all those check out ok, you could ask for a manometry testing of the esophagus, stomach and lower intestines as this test check for ANY abnomalies in movements or constractions in those areas. My dd has had all the other test done with normal results, except for the emptying scan, and she continues to have issues. We are schuduled, God’s willing, for a duodenal (sp?) manometry test in January.
We could also have an Ipendance test, instead of the Ph probe. The first one is more accurate as it test for acidic and non acidic reflux. the procedure for testing is the same, except one has two wires instead of one.
It’s hard to be dealing with all this, but hangi n there, it gets better.
