I am so sorry to hear of this. I dont have blood relatives with this, but my stepfather has Chron’s (severe). He’s in his late 40’s now and he’s had it since he was VERY little and was in the hospital on and off as a child. Back then, they didn’t know too much and would just take out affected intestine, colon, etc as they found it to be a problem.
About 9 years ago, he started getting treated at John’s Hopkins Hospital with Remicade treatments (IV treatments) and it went into complete remission. There are good treatments out there!! Just wanted to let you know…he was sooo severe and ok now. HUGS.
If you are worried about your children, bring this up to a specialist/GI doctor. I think they should do an upper endoscopy and or colonoscopy. I know that is how they found my stepfather’s neice’s Chron’s. She had trouble gaining, had ulcer’s in her mouth and was symptomatic (stomach pain, occassional diarrhea, etc) I am not exactly sure what the :see” in the scope to make the dx though.
