InactiveI had my DD on Soy Isomil without the DHA ARA…and her reflux was very little and she didn’t spit up hardly. She wasn’t upset from it at all. She had HORRIFIC gas and pain from that though but no bloody stools like on my breastmilk.
We were told by the doc to switch to Nutramagin LIPIL and her reflux became worse…as did her sleeping, etc. But without all this she was a happy baby for a while. Now she is progressivly getting worse with the moodiness and everything.I’m wondering if the DHA crap could be affecting her reflux. We switched her bottles to Dr Brown which has totally relieved her throwing up at night (weird), but her reflux is worse to me. She spits up or projectile spits it all the time between feedings and it seems to be bothering her worse. She’s keeping more of the stuff on her tummy.I bought some Neocate because her stools are still stringy and has a little spots of mucas in it…maybe blood not sure. I haven’t tried it yet…but it does not have the DHA stuff…which I’m wondering now could be causing her problems…October 29, 2007 at 8:19 pm #44757Anonymous
InactiveThe DHA/ARA did make my sons reflux worse as well! A number of moms on here have said the same thing. I think because it is a chemical version of it. I have spent soo much time asking doctors and formula companys about this and NONE of them will support this theory. But I do think it is true. I think our babies have such a sensitive digestive system already and any little thing can upset/aggrivate their stomachs.
Have you tried Goodstart formula at all? If she is definately intolerant to dairy I wouldnt try it..but it is broken down and there is a version w/out the dha/ara.October 29, 2007 at 9:22 pm #44761Anonymous
InactiveUnfortunately for me, she can’t handle dairy. Thats why we had her on the soy and I chose to go without DHA. When we put her on the Nutramagin, her reflux was SO bad. I think the Nutramagin would be awesome for her if it didn’t cause these problems…I am hoping the Neocate will not cause more problems for us, but I got it without DHA.

InactiveGood luck with the neocate. I have heard of chemically engineered DHA/ARA causing gas pains and discomfort for some babies. It’s not the same stuff exactly that comes in breastmilk, so maybe it’s hard to digest or something. But that’s just a guess, don’t know for sure. Good luck with the neocate. Hope it helps.
The other question is how old is your little one and is she on any meds? It’s possible that she’s reaching that age where reflux peaks and gets worse- around 4 months.October 30, 2007 at 8:40 pm #44805Anonymous
InactiveShe’s only 2 months and she’s on Prevacid. We decided to stick with the Nutramagin because of various reasons. I hope that I’m not making a mistake, but I SO wish it didn’t have the DHA stuff in it! She does seem uncomfortable with gas, but the mylicon constipates her. Its a double edged sword.

InactiveMy son can’t tolerate DHA/ARA. We switched him from Neocate when he was a year old and put him on Goodstart with DHA/ARA and it was the biggest mistake of this long journey. Since a year old he has been on Goodstart without DHA/ARA and he has done great. We have done plenty of milk trials but for some reason he does so much better with formula.

InactiveIf she has a major problem with dairy than the nutramigen could be the problem. It still has dairy in it. The proteins are very broken down, but they are in there. Maybe that’s it???
