Hi all-My 8 mo. old daughter has had reflux and is doing well with Gentlease

formula and ZegeJavaScript:AddSmileyIcon(‘‘)rid. Lately though, she has

been groaning and showing

signs of discomfort a few seconds after she swallows solids. For the first 7

weeks of solids, this didn’t happen, but now it’s been going on for about

three weeks. The first 8 or so bites are fine, and then a few seconds after

she swallows, it sounds like she’s trying to go #2 (sorry tmi)! Weird. Not

crying, grunting, really. She loves to eat, and doesnt have any allergies.

What do you think? My doctor doesn’t have much of a guess. My guess is

that she’s full and keeps eating anyway??

My son does this sometimes, and my guess is that they are actually refluxing the solids and the grunting and groaning are attempts to keep it down??? When it happens, it is just as you describe.. several bites and then the grunting.

I’ve also noticed that sometimes if I can get him to lean forward a bit, he will burp and then be fine again.

Yes, that’s what I think too. Once the tummy starts filling up some of the contents probably begin to back up and it causes discomfort. Some babies will refuse to eat anymore. Others may grunt and groan but continue to eat.
